Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ

That's Just How it Goes

March 8th, 1895 - MoM

It had taken Angie a while to come to this. Between keeping a close eye on Cash and figuring what to do about Connor, Angie hadn't had much time to investigate her parents' whereabouts. She hadn't told Connor yet, about the letter she'd found, the one that told her absolutely nothing about where they'd gone beyond that Connor was now in her care. Ironic and some strange twist of fate, but she also had to figure out what to do about the house itself and everything in it. Part of the reason she'd left ten years ago was that she hadn't wanted to have to deal with all of this shit, but now she was stuck with it. Now she wanted to have all of her ducks in a row before she let Connor know.

This meant a little jaunt down to Information to see her new friend Viola. Ang thought she might be able to at least get pointed in the right direction. They'd left some money to cover Connor's tuition and supplies, but Angie knew there was going to be more to it than this. "Vi," Angie greeted with a bright smile as she made her way up to the desk. "I need your professional help." She needed a lot of help these days for somebody who for the last decade had prided herself on being hyper-independent.

It was never a quiet day in the department, but over the years Viola had worked out a system that made it manageable on most days. And there was something to be said about the satisfaction that came in watching her inbox slowly empty over the course of the day.

She was reading over the latest memo to grace her desk--this one coming down from Pest Advisory--when Angie appeared at her desk. She smiled up at her friend, saying, "Of course. What do you need?" She set the memo back down in her inbox--it wasn't especially urgent, at least.

Angie leaned on the counter casually. She really wasn't sure how to go about asking for this information or if it was even something she could obtain, but hopefully Viola could at least steer her in the right direction. "I'm looking for some information on an estate in the countryside. It's been left in my care and I don't exactly know what to do with it." Ang still had yet to tell Connor that their parents had no design to come back for him any time soon and she was at a loss for what to do with the house. They couldn't live there, there was no way she could maintain it, but she also needed some of the things inside and would likely need to furnish a new place come summer when the Hogwarts term ended.

"I believe the deed will be under the name Marius Sinnet, but it should also have my name on it, or so I'm told." Angie had barely put down roots in this part of the world in over a decade, this was going to be a wild ride.

Viola retrieved a blank piece of parchment from a drawer in her desk and began taking down notes. "What sort of information are you looking for exactly?" she asked. Vi didn't doubt that she could find it--land records were usually very well-kept, after all.

Angie sighed. "I have this," she pulled the letter from her parents out of her pocket. "My adoptive parents, they have... left the country and in the case, left me the estate and the care of my brother. I cannot keep it, there's no way I can do the upkeep and everything else. I need to know if I can sell it, and everything with it." Angie pointed to the part near the bottom where her father signed the estate and Connor's custody (as if they were comparable things!) over to her, even acknowledging her new name, Miss Solange Sinnet, now known as Angie Swan, he'd written when he'd made it official.

She was still unsure of it all.

"I guess I do not know what my options are." Merlin she hoped Voila only read the part she pointed to. The rest was just a horrid retelling of their estrangement and a whole host of other things Ang would prefer not to relive.

"I'd have to do some research," Viola said honestly. This was far from her personal wheelhouse. "But I can see what I can find for you." Vi was terribly curious about what the story here was, but she thought she didn't yet know Angie well enough to ask--or to ask taskfully, anyway.

"Even if you can point me in the right direction of who to ask, I would greatly appreciate it." Knowing Viola worked in Public Information had been a bit of a longshot. She wasn't even really sure that this what the other woman dealt with exactly. She was thankful for any assistance she could get, though. This whole thing was just such a mess that she didn't know where to truly begin. She hadn't even been brave enough to tell Connor yet. She didn't want it hanging over his head at school in his firs year. He deserved to enjoy it without worrying about adult problems and responsibilities. Angie was the adult here, she would handle it.

"It's just such a mess," she sighed. "This was the only place I could think to start." She admitted. The next stop in her day was to head to the library to pick up a book on the laws surrounding this sort of thing and maybe to see a solicitor about the legality of it all as well, but she wanted to wait to do that until she was armed with enough information to make an informed decision.
