Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1894. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.
Despite his certainty that he'd had no option but to pronounce Miss Mulciber as the winner of her duel he felt responsible for the fact that he was now once again presiding over a mixed duel. Why couldn't Miss Mulciber have failed in her last spell in the previous duel?
Flora has no idea how she'd made it to the second round. By the end of her final round she'd felt a surge of confidence; now she felt she'd defaulted back to her natural insecurity on the dueling stage.
With a nervous glance between Mr. Macmillan and Mr. Thompsett, Flora lifted her wand and attempted to enlarge his nose. Hopefully to the point of distraction, if not true hideousness.
Of course he knew there was always a chance but till the moment he faced a girl in a duel Henry wasn't sure how to act. He was well aware girls could be very good duelists and the girl he was facing off now certainly wasn't the first he'd seen or heard of, his sister was in the dueling club after all. In truth Henry just wasn't sure if it would be polite to hex a girl even if this was a duel and it was allowed. On the other hand Miss Mulciber clearly knew what she was getting into by signing up for the dueling competition so expected to get hexed.
Taking a deep breath while Mr. MacMillian explained the rules, Henry reconciled himself into thinking this was no different than any other competitive sport at Hogwarts which allowed girls to join up, like Quidditch. The fact Miss Mulciber was a Slytherin automatically put her into the 'main rival' category for any Gryffindor Quidditch player. So be it, she came into the dueling competition fully aware she may be paired up against boys just as he did knowing he may face a girl. He wasn't going to throw this competition to avoid hurting a girl.
When everything was ready, he bowed to her respectively like he would do any other opponent in a dueling match then prepared to cast his first spell. Despite his resolve not to hold back because he was facing a girl, he elected to cast a disarming spell instead of something more aggressive, like a stinging jinx.
Ever since we met I've got just one regret to live through and that one regret is you
The corners of Charles' mouth twitched almost imperceptibly upwards as he witnessed the decisive end to the first round. It boded well for the rest of the duel.
The first round goes to Mr. Thompsett. You may begin the next when ready, Mr. Thompsett. And let it all end there for the love of Merlin. Outfit | Tag: Flora MulciberHenry Thompsett | Notes:
Henry felt a surge of elation when he saw Miss Mulciber's wand go flying. Whatever spell she meant to cast it didn't seem to take effect because he disarming beat her to it. Did he feel bad he bested a girl? Not really, not when he knew witches can be very good at dueling. He just hoped if he won this round he didn't end up facing off against his sister. Henry didn't think he would be able to beat Sisse. Even if he could he rather not, there was no telling how Sisse would react after the tournament was over.
"Good try Miss Mulciber," Henry told her once the round was over. He didn't see any need to rub it in or gloat, afterall if he had been a fraction slower she could have easily won this match.
Once Flora was ready for the second round, Henry took his place and began his spell. He considered using the same one but decided to go defensive, casting a shield charm.
