Appearance: At six foot one, Vernon never quite reached his father’s height, but shares the man’s broad build and still stands well over average. He is, however, plainly his mother’s son, with red hair and light eyes inherited from his muggle ancestors. He favours comfort over fashion, though is not overly keen on wizarding robes. Age has not yet taken his physique, leaving him well-muscled, if rather decorated with small scars. He is right-handed.
History: 1858 | Vernon is the second child born to Clifton and Patience Avery, arriving in March. He is quite plainly his mother’s son, a determined tuft of red hair appearing on his scalp from birth.
1862 | Pneumonia takes his mother’s life shortly after Vernon's birthday. Only four at the time, Vernon can remember neither her death nor her life, though even in his adult life wishes he had known more of her.
1864 | A six-year-old Vernon meets the woman who would be his stepmother, Tabitha -----. Unsure what to make of the woman, his first act of magic sees him vanish her hair. Her horrified shrieks entertain him greatly, and he decides he quite likes her. She and Clifton marry in October.
1867 | Summer goes to Hogwarts, of which Vernon finds himself incredibly jealous. She is sorted into Hufflepuff.
1868 | Autumn is born. Babies, the energetic lad promptly decides, are silly (and useless!) indeed, and he pays the infant little mind.
1869 | At last, Vernon departs for Hogwarts! As his father and grandfather were, he finds himself sorted easily into Gryffindor, but does not immediately excel—or even succeed—in his courses. Determined not to disappoint his father, he eschews clubs in favour of extra studying
1871 | Not wishing to tax himself academically, Vernon takes only one elective in his third year—Care of Magical Creatures. Much though he wishes to play quidditch, he doubts that he can keep solid grades on the house team, but does sign on as a beater for club quidditch.
1872 | Summer leaves school after her O.W.Ls and finds work as a secretary.
1874 | Now in his sixth year, Vernon carries on with the courses befitting an auror, having decided to follow in his father’s footsteps—and worked damn hard to do so! The fact that it was touted as the only way he'd be permitted to pursue NEWTs might have been a factor. Over Christmas, Summer confesses to Vernon that their father had turned away a suitor who had wished to court her. Vernon thinks his father is quite right in this, as time has seen him become quite protective of his sisters.

1877 | Vernon is excited to meet the man who has finally met his father’s laundry list of Ideal Suitor Characteristics, though quickly decides Summer’s beau is nothing special.
1879 | Finished with his training, Vernon is now a full auror.
1880 | The fall sees Vernon begin mentoring a third year trainee—and good friend of his. Given this closeness, he is absolutely devastated when his trainee dies on the job just before the new year. Rashly—as can be his way—he leaves the aurors altogether, deciding a desk job would be much safer. This leads to a substantial rift between he and his father which does not ease for almost six months, at which point Vernon admits he had been an idiot.
1881 | Vernon can tell that Summer is beginning to give up hope that she will ever be married; while he previously agreed with his father’s scrutiny, he knows his sister is not young anymore, and does not wish her to become a miserable spinster. Finding life in the beast department to be an utter bore (though none of his friends die there), he decides to occupy himself with a new challenge: studying to become an animagus.
1884 | Vernon is ecstatic to hear that his department is looking for dragon restraint officers, and immediately signs up. His previous work experience as an auror makes him a strong candidate, and he is granted the position. He proves to be off to a rocky start, actually losing his wand to a dragon. On the up side, he meets Tilda MacFusty, so it was not as dire a time as it might have been.
1885 | His father is killed by escaped prisoner Tybalt Lestrange. After months of deliberation on the matter, Vernon leaves his job as a Dragon Restraint Officer to retrain as an Investigator. While he knows Tabitha can more than look after his siblings if he passed, he does not feel right placing himself in harm's way on a daily basis (and knows better than to go entirely back to a desk job).
1886 | Vernon completes his trainee year and is now a full investigator. Just after her thirtieth birthday, Summer marries a Ministry colleague and leaves her secretarial post (and the Avery home).
1888 | Vernon becomes an uncle. Huzzah!
