Fortuna has always stood out from the crowd. Golden year around, Una treasures her unique complexion and distinctive hair. Coily and lionesque naturally, Fortune usually wears her hair in elaborate braided styles. Her hair is her crown, and she wears her royalty with pride. With her round face, wide-set eyes, and wide lips, Fortune struggles to look her age. In twenty years, she will love her baby face. Fortuna favors bright colors and metals in her clothing. Long and lean at 5’6” Fortuna relies on structural clothing to give herself a more feminine silhouette. She is right handed. History:
1873 – Fortuna Miranda Creswell is born to Prosper and Victoria Creswell in Godric’s Hollow. She is older than her brother “Merrit” by a few minutes. She rarely bothers with the distinction of first or second born.
Fortuna has no recollection (obviously) of her first introduction to the Fudges, but she and Holliday are together more often than not in most of her childhood memories.
1875 – Tensions between her parents reach a new high point, toddler Fortuna is unaware of the difference.
1879 – Fortuna’s first act of magic is to change her watercolors after she and “Merrit” clash over who gets the red pot. Her black turns red and she is able to finish something that looks like flowers. She seems unmoved by the display, the importance lost on her.
1882 – The Cresswells move to Sanditon Terrace to support Prosper and the Fudges. Fortuna falls in love with the seaside location, the sea, sand, and endless horizon calling to her inner artist. Already fascinated by her father’s work, Fortune spends as much time as possible at his elbow, watching him work. Her drawings become more and more recognizable as buildings and gardens with an oceanic twist.
1883 – Sanditon Terrace is completed and Prosper makes it his permanent home. Mother moves to Bartonburg and while Fortuna knows a future debutante must work closely with her mother, she considers Sanditon her home.
1884 – Una heads to Hogwarts with her twin and Holliday. She’s sorted into Hufflepuff, which fits well with Mrs. Cresswell’s image of her daughter. Fortune is disappointed Holliday doesn’t join her. Fortuna shows natural aptitude for Herbology and Charms work but struggles with Potions. She finds like minds in the art and music clubs.
1886 – At the end of her second year, Fortuna adds Care of Magical Creatures, Earth Magic, and Divination. She has little interest in CoMC but takes the elective for more time with Holliday and regrets the decision almost immediately.
1887 – Herbert Fudge is killed during the attack on the Wizarding World Market. While Una likes Mr. Fudge, she’s more worried about her father and the Fudge siblings. Herbert staying around as a ghost is a good comprise, she guesses. At least he’s around, sort of.Topaz Urquart becomes a werewolf and battle lines are drawn among friends. While Fortuna knows Topaz isn’t to blame, she distances herself from the girl and the scandal at her mother’s insistence. She won’t speak ill against the girl, but seeing Holliday get closer rubs her the wrong way. As Una pulls away, Holliday and Amity become better friends, leaving Una feeling stranded.
1889 – OWLS provide needed escape from several classes and Fortuna continues on with Charms, Divination, Earth Magic, Herbology, and Transfiguration. Now with half the courses she’d juggled for two gone, Fortuna doubles her commitment to etiquette and her arts. While she would love to follow her father into architecture, she’s accepted that her highest priority is to marry well and quickly. She makes a silent promise to marry better than Holliday or Amity. She seems to be the only one focusing on their futures, anyhow.
1890 – The Quidditch World Cup at Sanditon exposes her to a culture and world beyond the small reality of future debs. The bright colors and flashy fliers inspire her to branch out in her drawings, adding clothing sketches to her repertoire.
1891 – NEWTs and her Coming Out looming, Fortune has her sights set on the horizon – Society, fashion, renown, and a home of her own. While she knows it is unlikely, Fortune sets her sights on a social climb. If she drills herself on the eligible unmarried men of Society as if her life depends on it, at least she takes her next stage of life seriously.
