Defence Against the Dark Arts
Summer Essay

Given my age and relatively sheltered home life, it seems to me as though the greatest "dark" danger to me is simply crime. Pickpockets, mostly, but anyone can run afoul of a dark wizard, or simply be in the wrong place at the wrong time. To that end, it is important that we maintain a large number of skilled aurors within the community to ensure our continued safety.

After completing one's time at Hogwarts, it takes another three years of intensive training in various areas for one to be able to call themselves an auror. It is a dangerous, difficult, and honourable job.

Everyone is susceptible to all sorts of crime and those my age are especially vulnerable. With my small stature and family background, I’m at the greatest risk of being a victim of crimes like robbery, theft and a kidnap for ransom. Although my family history also suggest that I am likely to be a victim of manslaughter as with the case of my sister, grandmother, and mother.

Taking extra precaution of the surrounding and my belongings is the best step to avoid those kinds of encounters. Of course even the most vigilant can still be driven into a corner and having some defensive spells in my arsenal can increases the chances that I’ll be unharmed.

  

Defence Against the Dark Arts Assignment

As my father has so kindly reminded me, the darkest force I may face outside the castle is the plague — especially one created by malicious wizards. It is what sent the rest of my siblings, bar Camille, to an early grave, and left my family irreparably damaged. It seemed like a silly worry to me as a child, but as odd occurences become more regular in the magical world, especially during the summers, I've found the thought that I might soon find my headstone posted next to my siblings' increasingly disturbing.

Given matters of age, I believe young students are particularly vulnerable to the dangers the lie outside our home lives. Not only are we susceptible to kidnap, theft and violence, we are told our magic should not be used outside of the safety provided by school. For this reason, in my understanding, not only do young students have to be extra cautious about their surroundings and people who are invited - or invite themselves - to the areas of their houses, but the Ministry of Magic itself should offer a reasonable number of aurors in which children can be found the most.

I believe that the greatest danger we face both in and out of Hogwarts castle is ignorance and the only cure for that is knowledge. Without knowledge we are children walking in the darkness but with it we can light a candle or a lamp. If we know how to defend ourselves against bad people then we will always be safe, and if those bad people knew more then they would know to be better and no one would be unsafe.

  

Defence Against Dark Arts Homework

At thirteen, I am spared many of the dangers of adult lives, even more so being female. I am rarely to leave my house alone, without a chaperone. If I take the question in a physical sense, the most danger I might encounter is in the greenhouse at home. Sometimes either my sisters or parents dabble in magical plants. Normally these are mundane plants, but sometimes they can be dangerous as well.

The best way I can be prepared is to keep myself aware of what we keep and the ways to handle each variant.
Such as knowing to wear ear protection when handling mandrakes or knowing spells to counter should an emergency arise.
