Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

May 28th, 1895 — Coming Out Ball; Great Hall
Leander had come to the Coming Out Ball with one main objective: to see Emma Flitwick. He would also relish a dance with her if they could manage it. He could not help the feelings that had grown within him when it came to the Ravenclaw graduate. She had appeared a vision of an angel as she descended the steps, too ethereal for the likes of him to behold.

The time was not right yet for him to approach her, he felt. So he had simply roamed the Great Hall though it was not long before he caught sight of a different familiar blonde. "Miss DeCroix!" He greeted as he approached her. "Enjoying the privilege of attending the ball?" Hoping he was remembering correctly that she would be finishing her fifth year right now.

Admire all of you
But fire burns me too
Can't stop that disco getting through
Can't stop that disco wanting you.

Part of Violetta felt a little brokenhearted for the fact that this would be the last time she would ever grace the inside of this castle, unless perhaps for the chance she might send her own children here, as slim as that was as they were almost certainly destined for Beaubatons like she had been before her last-minute change five ago. She had even shed several tears over the matter. But she was a lady as of today and would finally get to enjoy the life that she had been promised.

She sauntered across the room in a dress no less elegant (or expensive) than any of the seventh-year leavers with her hair tightly plaited against her head. She loved watching the other girls be presented but did feel a little jealous to miss out on this for herself. At least she had her private coming out to look forward to.

"Monsieur Hobday! What a pleasant surprise. You are enjoying the celebration, oui?" She raised her hand to push a stray hair behind her ear but really meant to bring attention to her dance card that currently only had the name François Du Pont written on it. "How have you been? I watched you play for Montrose, very impressive. I'm sure the debutantes will be clamouring for you." She grinned and looked across at the seventh years. It would be hard for a nineteen-year-old to match so early, but she would certainly entertain him herself had she been free to do so.

"I am, yes," Leander said with a smile. Miss DeCroix had always been kind to him and he would even be so bold as to say she was a friend of his. "I am glad you had a chance to catch a game I was in," Leander said. He was a second string so he did not always get to be in the game.

He chuckled at the prospect of debutantes clamouring. He was too young to entertain such thoughts but that did not mean he could not have a fun whirl on the dance floor or a bit of flirtation with the young women of society. Though these days he only had eyes for a particular young woman. Though she was much too good for him in a lot of ways and unavailable to him. "I feel it would be an utter travesty for me not to request a spot on your dance card."
