Appearance: Nacho is short for his age, standing at only 4' 2" and he certainly has some napoleonic syndrome nonsense going on as a result. He has inherited the Alderton blue eyes from his maternal side, and dark hair from the paternal. He has fairer skin that burns in the sun and a decent smattering of freckles all over. His wand and writing hand are his left, but Papa is constantly yelling at him that he should use his right, for everything. He could give two licks about fashion, but again-- Papa has his opinions and the Sidonias are nothing if not an old, fashionable, pureblood family.
History:
Ignacio Sidonia II. and Margaret Porter-Alderton met on a whim some two years before Nacho's conception. He was from a prominent, wealthy-if-distant family in Spain and she was desperate to escape the crushing weight of her own too-close, too-noisy extended family. They had as many things in common as they didn't and a whirlwind romance blossomed over one season while she was 'officially' courting someone else. Low and behold the shock to all families involved when she turns up to Christmas with a ring and a husband.
His family goes to arms immediately. How dare Ignacio marry without his father's consent of bride, and how dare he chose someone from a family that associates with halfbloods and muggleborns (never mind the fact that she is, herself, a pureblood.) Her family is similarly confused; how could Margaret chose someone from such an odious line of obvious classist, muggle-haters when her closest friend and cousin is in fact, a halfblood? The couple has no answers for either side and are pressed to annul the marriage to which they respond with a deliberate, if rushed, pregnancy.
December, 1882 | Ignacio Antonio III. and his twin, Mila Inez, are born sickly and ill. Mila the worse of the two, does not survive past her first month, but to everyone's surprise (and the familial dismay), Ignacio eventually matures into a healthy baby boy. He's small those first years, but he's alive. The Porter-Alderton side of the family accepts the marriage as they must and slowly, bonds begin to develop and tensions ease. Ignacio spends a lot of time in the Alderton nursery his first few years in fact, born around the same time as his cousin Charles Hutton.* (See more below.) The Sidonias remain distant and cold.
Ignacio's first hint of magic comes about very, very young. He is only six months old when he summons a mirror from across the room to stare at himself in, fascinated with the way shapes and colors appeared in it. His paternal grandmother, dissatisfied still with the marriage and union that brought about Ignacio's conception, softens to the child after that and declares - that despite his maternal connections - he must have drawn from the core of the Sidonia bloodline and that he would be a very powerful wizard some day indeed! She takes to calling him her "enano" shortened to nano, meaning little one (and/or occasionally, little nuisance.)
1891 | Ignacio is only eight when his mother passes away in a horrific incident for which he has very few details. He only knows that she was there one moment, and gone the next. His father refuses to speak of her demise, or how they got back home that day. As far as his own memories go, Ignacio has a blank, empty hole where his mother's face ought to have been. He doesn't ask about her, and Papa doesn't volunteer. In fact, he barely sees his father after that for a long time. He spends most of his days with Aunt Lucy. Despite the fact that he and Charles don't really get along the way they used to, he clings to the familiarity of the Hutton environment. Lucy reminds him of what Mama must have been like, perhaps, if he could only remember her.
1892 | A year into his grief and mourning, Papa finally reappears and declares that they are to have no more contact with the Porter, Alderton, Hutton, Foxwood, whomevers! Ignacio is going to be raised in Spain, as a spaniard and proper Sidonia, and that is to be that. The sudden lurch of 'home' moving from England to Spain is a trying one but at least now he gets to see his grandmother every day.
The family moves into the Sidonia Estate temporarily and its there that Ignacio becomes "Nacho." (It's a common colloquialism for his name and helps his cousins differentiate him from his father.) He begins to learn more about blood purism and why it's so important, as well as class and all about the Sidonia family tree-- the many things his former, British governess had never taught him. By the time his Hogwarts letter arrives, Nacho is 'his own' little person, a very neatly primed heir respectable enough to bear the weight of his surname.
June, 1894 | At the beginning of the summer, just before his first year, Grandma Sidonia passes away. In order to get family affaires in order, Nacho is relocated once again— this time to the Blackwood house back in England. His father is determined to build an estate and empire of his own, but must negotiate with his siblings as to the inheritance. Nacho’s return to the English-speaking world brings with it reminders of things he had rather leave behind and so he struggles, not only to fit in with his more Anglican cousins, but also back into a society he was told to snub.
September, 1894 | Nobody can be surprised then when his Hogwarts letter arrives in July and September sees him at Kings Cross. Nacho doesn’t know how long he’s going to be here, or at Hogwarts, but he makes an effort to try and fit in. He hopes he'll make the right kind of friends, the ones Papa warned him to seek out. He hopes he'll do well and make his grandmother proud. He hopes, more than anything though, that Charles Hutton will stay as far away from him as humanely possible.

Nacho's little personality is not really his own. He's been groomed over the past few years to adopt the ideology of his paternal family and as a result, he can come off as a bit of a jerk. He knows, deep down, that someone once told him it wasn't nice to talk about class or blood purity or think oneself better than anyone else because of these things but-- that memory has faded with time. He strives so hard to make his father proud, to do his best and be the best at absolutely everything. Perhaps one day he might even accomplish it. Perhaps one day, grandma's little prophecy that he was bound to be a powerful wizard might actually come true!

A NOTE ON FAMILY: Margaret and Lucy were quite close growing up and remained as much throughout the remainder of Margaret's life, despite the sudden appearance of her new husband. Margaret named Nacho after Anthony, in honor of Lucy and their support, though his father denies it now. Nacho hates the Huttons, mostly Charlie. (He's not quite sure what he thinks of Aunt Lucy anymore but maybe, she can be... the one exception.)
