There was little Will could do to protect them while holding a toddler and remaining wandless. (The truth also remained that even if Will had a wand he had only a vague idea of how to use it.) And still, he tried. He reached for Diana a second too late, her shield protecting them from the fire but not from the loose cobblestones beneath their feet. Were it not for Henry clinging to his neck, Will would've rushed to her and thrown her over his shoulder, but as it stood he could only reach for her with a single freed hand.

"Focus through the pain, Di." It was an order he never wished to give her but they were sitting ducks now that the dragon had spotted them. They had to keep moving, and quickly. "Which way to the library?"

A whimper escaped her lips as she gripped his hand tight. Focus through the pain. Hadn’t she done that enough these past few years? She was tired of focusing through the pain; she wanted happiness, she wanted her family. Her husband.

“That way.” She managed to raise her arm high enough and point. “Past the red mail box and to the left.” Meanwhile a voice chanted in her head: Don’t pass out, don’t pass out.

Past the mailbox and to the left - it wasn't impossible of directions so long as to the left still existed after these attacks. Will wasn't overly hopeful with how furious the dragons were, especially not when he was having to guide them around countless charred bodies and rubble. In a way, it was fortunate Diana was distracted with the pain, for at least she had a reason to ignore their surroundings. And Henry - Will glanced down at his son once more to ensure the boy was still covering his face. This was all too much for anyone to see, never mind a toddler.

They moved far slower than he would have liked. Diana was swaying on her feet, her injury likely far more intense than she had initially let on. Ideally, Will would have carried them both and ran (he had to still be strong enough to do so after months at sea) but with so many tripping hazards he knew it wasn't wise. Instead, all he could do was continuously murmur encouragements to her and hope they wouldn't encounter another one.

Eventually, they made it to the mailbox and the left was, mercifully, unscathed thus far. "There, down at the end - is that the library?" It had to be. Merlin, he prayed it would be.

Time seemed to pass slowly for the next few moments as they made their way towards the end of the block and all Diana could do was keep a tight grip on the man next to her. Her vision flickered with every step as each breath sent sparks of agony shooting down her spine. Every time she felt as if she was going to collapse from the pain, his words would reach her; bolster her, and give her strength to walk those next few steps; and then the next few steps, and the next.

Finally, he asked if they’d made it, and Diana shifted her gaze from the pavement below to what was right ahead. “Yes,” She breathed, unable to mask the half-sob of relief that worked its way up her throat. “Yes, we’re almost there.” She said and took a deep breath to keep moving forward.

The path to the library was mostly clear, though whether it was to the ministry's efforts or simply that the dragons hadn't made it here yet wasn't certain. One look at Diana proved that she was nearly unconscious, and so Will paused only long enough to hoist her up over his shoulder before walking as fast as he was able for the last fifty feet.

Soon, they were passing through the barrier and into the helpful crowd of healers and ministry officials. Will remained close to Diana, his grip on Henry even tighter now that his mother was completely indisposed. Later, they'd figure out how to explain this all to Henry (or, rather, Diana would and Will would blindly agree). For now though, Will was comfortable to remain content in the knowledge that they wouldn't be eaten or burned to a crisp.
