Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ

Willing To Learn
#1

9th September, 1893

To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Miss Elisabeth Champagne and I’m currently a sixteen year old student at Pendergast's School for Young Roses and a former student of Académie de Magie Beauxbâtons. Recently, I have come to learn about your fine institution from both a cousin of mine and a current student of yours that recommended I attend, and it has intrigued me considerably as I wish to further my education, particularly in Alchemy and Potioneering. However, as I started finishing school after my fourth year, before I was able to obtain my O.W.L. scores, I fear I’m too far behind to attend Flint Institute should I be given permission to do so. Nevertheless, I still feel it’s important to try.

I was wondering if you would still accept me or if there was something I could do to improve my chances as it would mean a great deal to me to be able to both continue my education and debut at the same time; this would likely be in the summer of 1895, giving me plenty of time to catch up if needed. So far, I have continued studying on my own time, so whereas I have not had a formal education for the past year or so, I don’t believe I have fallen too far behind in my knowledge and I have an eagerness to learn and a drive to dedicate extra time to study and catch up if needed.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

Respectfully,
Miss Elisabeth Champagne

To Miss Champagne,

I am pleased to receive your letter, and while our Autumn term has now begun we have an intake expected in January which may be able to accommodate you. We may be able to accommodate you in joining the September course a little late if you are able to pass an aptitude test we may be able to allow you to join the September cohort.

Your lack of OWL and NEWT scores would not be an entire barrier, if there are gaps in your technical acumen that cannot be overcome we may be able to offer some additional tuition to bring you up to the level required to take the more advanced course.

Before we can proceed however, there is a small matter. We will need your father's permission to proceed. Why don't you make an appointment to meet at my office next week, if your father wishes to write to me in the meantime we can hopefully find a place for you here.

Kindly,
Mister T. Flint.
