Beryl didn’t even bother to hide her laugh when Mr. Iago made the claim that his job was to make dreams come true. Truly, how could one be so brazenly full of themselves? Though she did have to admit that she was rather entertained by the snake's blatant egomania. It was a trait that had been boring her homicidal all night, and yet the intrigue that Mr. Iago brought on with his lure made the display coyly amusing. Another feather in his cap next to the boldly bright one of her mother’s utter disdain for the man, and the vexingly dark one of being an assorted piece on her fathers gameboard.

As Mr. Iago freed himself for her attempted grasp, Beryl gave great attention to the delicate feel of their hands final parting. The snake’s bow and gentle brushing of lips probably appeared to others as rather gentlemanly, but for Beryl it was a curious course of action for the social climber. She was all but giving herself to the man on a silver platter for an extended display of whispers and gossip behind gloved hands. Yet here he was; willing to take home a participation badge and not the trophy. “Quite.” Beryl mused as the glint of his eyes reflected back in her own. “I rather look forward to the next time you manage to slither in.” The words playfully pulled her mouth up into a genuine smile of amusement, and as Mr. Iago made his exit, Beryl watched as the man all but vanished into the mix as the song that had begun started to pick up its pace. Their song’s worth of gossip warming her to the frigid storm that was already thundering across the ballroom towards her.
