Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Digging up dirt - NEWT charm class

NEWT charms class

The ground in front of the students,, as they gathered was dominated by a large plateau of earth and stone topped with grass as if someone had used a spell to lift the canal barge-sized area two metres above its usual position. Professor Bowen looked at the students and then looked at the wall of dirt. She had directed the sixth and seventh years into groups to her left and right respectively. ”Good afternoon, today we will be exploring the gouging charm. For those not already familiar with it, it would be better known as a digging charm, but who am I to criticise. It is a spell that has long been used to cut a path through earth and stone in the same way a muggle miner might use a pick axe, except a little faster. Careful use of this spell can allow precision digging to retrieve buried items or even trapped individuals.

There is nobody trapped under here thankfully, but I would like each of you to use the spell to cut into the mound In front of you and hope to find a number of hidden balls approximately the size of a bludger. Sixth years, yours are metal, Seventh years, yours are made of granite, so be careful with your casting as the spell can cut this too.

Defodio
she cast into the mound in the centreline between the two year group as a way of demonstrating the spell. A small path was cut into the mound as if being cut by an invisible stream of water. She nodded to the students to allow them to begin their own castings. The earth was mostly quite dense but students would need to take care of falling dirt if they stood too close whilst digging into it.

It looked like class was being conducted outdoors today. The air was nippy and it was odd to see the plateau of dirt compared to the rest of the grounds still covered in snow. Nicodemus took up his wand and got started on their assigned task.

Were it not for his lack of sight hindering his learning, Nim probably would have been pretty great at Charms. That didn't bother him any though as it just meant that he had to work a little harder than most other people to succeed. His trusty companion touched his elbow to indicate that they were to begin casting. He made sure to listen for the subtle sounds of classmates around him. It wouldn't do to accidentally cut them with the spell.

Paxton stood alongside his classmates as they were told what they would be doing that day. They would be cutting through granite, apparently. He waited for his turn and took up his wand when it came.
