Alvin stood up as soon as Miss Thompsett's maid came calling for her. He quietly and regrettably pulled his hand from under hers; he didn't want anyone getting any ideas about the two of them being out here unsupervised. He didn't know what he thought about it himself and so he couldn't consider anyone else's opinions either.

"Let me know if you need anything," he assured her gently. Not sure what he could really provide, other than a listening ear, but it was nice to have someone who understood where he was coming from.
