Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Zelda laughed. "Well, if the alternative is that," she said, "I guess I ought to kiss you this once." What was the harm in it? She sat up and gestured for Tweedy to sit up as well; this was too much to manage when one was lying down.

Oddly enough, Dionisia could feel the butterflies beginning to stir in her stomach as she sat up on bed to face Zelda. Was she supposed to feel this was? Was Zelda feeling this way? Dionisia doubted it—especially with Zelda's relaxed demeanor—but leaned forward nevertheless and waited for her friend to follow suit.

Still casual, Zelda tilted her head and pressed a soft, warm kiss to Dionisia's mouth. Where Mr. Darrow's face had been a little scruffy, Dio's was smooth, and her lips were a little smaller and softer. Another difference: there was none of that buzzing in her chest and stomach, no drop in her stomach, no electric jolt on Zelda's end.

She pulled away. "See?" Zelda said.

Unlike Zelda, Dionisia's heart was racing. The kiss itself wasn't anything special, but it was a kiss nonetheless. When Zelda finally pulled back, a sheepish smile fell on her face and she was sure her face was bright pink. She could feel her lips tingling, almost as if she was stung by a bee; she had to refrain from reaching up to touch them.

"Mmm, that was nice," she mumbled in embarrassment. She wasn't sure if the kiss would prompt any further conversation on the matter—and she was definitely worried that Zelda would have questions, especially since they wore two completely different expressions—so she quickly moved on with the next point.

"And that was it, then? You kissed him and left?" she asked, referring to her mystery man.

Dio looked - well, she didn't look embarrassed. Instead, she looked like she'd been into the kiss, and Zelda's eyebrows shot up with confusion. Had Dio liked the kiss?

Luckily for Tweedy, her question about Mr. Darrow distracted Zelda. She wrinkled her nose and shook her head. "That was it," she said, "Then I left."

Her fast still flushed pink, Dionisia was too distracted to push Zelda much further. It still made little sense why Zelda would talk to her about a kiss, especially if it was something she would so readily repeat with Dionisia in her bedroom. Maybe there really wasn't a point to it at all, as Zelda had said.

"Well," she started, swallowing a lump in her throat. "If you like him a lot, maybe you ought to wait until he comes back. Then—see if he likes you, too." It was hopeless advice, but continuing the conversation about kissing—even about Zelda's mystery man—seemed to have been a bad idea.

She needed to figure herself out, Merlin.

"I guess I can do that," Zelda said. She sighed. "I just hate waiting, you know?" Waiting had never been one of her talents, for all that she was a Hufflepuff - Zelda had diligence in spades, but almost no patience.

Obviously, seeing as she'd very recently lost her virtue to a man she objectively did not know very well. Maybe she ought to work on patience.

Dionisia smiled. "Patience is a virtue, Zelda. I'd hate to see you drive yourself mad," she responded with her Mediwitch Tone™, which was surprisingly more calming than trying to work through her (and Zelda's) emotions. Letting out a deep sigh indicative of the end of the conversation, Dionisia leaned over the side of the bed in search of the magazine. "I bet Witch Weekly has better gossip than we do."

Unlikely.
