Poppy realized her blunder as Ms. Mountbatton expressed her shock at receiving an invitation and she felt her face warm a touch. Of course the other young woman w ould not have known her mama planned to invite the most eligible, prestigious young ladies of the ton. How could she? They were not formally acquainted yet, anyhow. Poppy only knew because she had reviewed the list already, providing her own suggestions, and spotted the name amongst the masses. “I am so glad!” she replied gently, not sure if it was at all proper to address the faux-pas or not. Deciding not, Poppy pressed on. “It will be marvelous to have you there, Ms. Mountbatton. I do hope we can be friends!” As the conversation shifted once more to the topic of her debut, Poppy settled a touch and nodded. “Mostly,” she replied with an air of excitement. “Mama has been taking the brunt of most organization, however I’m delighted to help her select colors and invitations. The papierie is so delicately elegant! I am at a loss for words on how to describe it!” And so on and so forth. Yes, Poppy thought to herself amidst the easy chatter. She very much did hope they could be friends!
