Her eyes sealed shut almost as if Cameron had physically struck her. It wasn't just that she got angry that day (though she did) and carried on ignoring him because of that anger. Prior to their argument, she had rearranged her schedule, had forced time into her day where there was none, had made such a concentrated effort to help him, only for him to throw it in her face as if it had never mattered. As if the dream she thought they both shared didn't matter. That he didn't even remember what was said was even more hurtful than the fight itself, because the only purpose this conversation served was to cement the fact that they would never be the same.

That she would never trust him to be friends again.

"You're right," she nodded tensely, shutting down just as she had the last time. What was the fucking point? He'd demanded of her only a few minutes ago, and Alice couldn't help but feel the same. Short of being a whipping post for his feelings towards Sloane, this conversation had no point. Not if he didn't care. Not if he didn't even bloody remember.

"You're right. I'm going to go now. Sorry for being a terrible friend to you." She added quietly before attempting to walk away from him again.

She was saying he was right, which under most circumstances was what he wanted to hear, but she looked so pained in saying it that it was clear that she was only doing so to get him to shut up (well, unfortunately for her, he didn't know when the best time to do that was).

He reached out and grabbed her wrist like he might have four, five months ago to get her attention, but this time he did it so he could give himself enough time to step in front of her once again. "I know you don't mean that. I know you," he said, his frustration building.

"If you would just tell me what really made you mad that day, maybe we wouldn't have to do this," he huffed, "but you're so stubborn and for Merlin's sake, I'm no legilimens. You never told me. You avoid the answer every. single. time."

She refused to meet his eye. Whether this was because she was hurt or embarrassed she didn't know, but regardless she knew she didn't want to talk to him ever again. He claimed that he cared, claimed that he knew her, but he didn't even bother to remember the insults hurled at her. It didn't work both ways, and were they outside of the library she might've screamed that at him.

But, she was trapped and she refused to scream inside of her sanctuary.

"How do you need me to tell you what you said?" Alice demanded lowly. "You thought I'd get Sloane expelled, because that was the kind of friend I was. Even though I'd rearranged my life to help you, none of it mattered. I didn't matter."

Alice wiped furiously at the single tear that managed to escape. "I was doing all I could to help you achieve a dream that I'll never have and you- you just threw it in my face." And, with one last push past him she made it from the library and into the main corridor.

Her words struck him. At first they didn't sound at all accurate—he'd never thought she would run to Professor d'Orsay and tattle on them. She wasn't that sort of person. At the same time, he knew he'd they'd gotten into a fight about him trusting her with that information, so she could be remembering something he wasn't. On the other hand, the bit about her rearranging his schedule, the part about their shared dream... he drew a blank. He didn't remember that coming up in their fight, nor any time after that.

Well—except it had. He remembered (if a little cloudily) telling her that healing was stupid. But Merlin.. hadn't she realized he was talking about it for him? Not her, of course, because in her case the dream was perfectly reasonable, but it was stupid for him to pursue it when he didn't know, well, anything required to pursue it. He stared at her blankly as she moved past him, and he didn't follow her. He stared ahead, wondering how disconnected their memories of that day were.
