Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Dear Miss Ruskin,

I noticed you in this yesterday's Prophet and I wish to congratulate you on internship. I regret that small minds choose to debate your merits with their morning tea, but I urge you to take heart. While I cannot speak as a personal acquaintance nor am I familiar with the potential complications of your circumstances, I do trust the good sense of Mr. Baxter Keene and whatever drove you to pursue such an occupation.

I myself was forced to hide my family name when training because of circumstances beyond my control. Whether too rich, too poor, too renowned, or unknown, there will always be naysayers to block your progress. I hope, in time, you look back on these moments as testaments to your tenacity.

If I may offer one piece of unsolicited advice - please forgive my presumption - it helps to note why you chose this path. I suggest making those notes in this journal. It will at least get you started. If you encounter any practical obstacles, please do not hesitate to to make a note a note on the enclosed parchment. The owls know what to do.

Best wishes,

A Believer in Progress

Enclosed with the letter is this journal.
