July 31st, 1895 — Hogsmeade Market

Twice weekly, High Strert plays host not only to the usual shops, but to the myriad carts and stalls of the Hogsmeade Market. Today, though, something is plainly amiss: the popcorn vendor's machine seems to have gone absolutely mad, and is flooding his section of the street with popped kernals and the smell of burning.

Character A is quite decidedly already buried by this tide of popcorn, while others nearby have to contend not only with the ersatz avelanche but with the birds who have declared this place a never-ending snack.

Though she'd been keeping a somewhat low(er) profile than normal, Tabi thought a venture to the market to see what was available. She had yet to spot Mr. Wye, though he often found her when she least expected. She was hoping to get some lavender for the house and thought one of the local farms might have some. Otherwise she would have to check the Plunkett family store to see if they had any. It really wasn't a bother, but she wanted to save herself the time if she could, while browsing at her leisure.

Unfortunately she hadn't the time to find any lavender, or anything else for that matter, when she heard a loud, familiar popping. It seemed a little too loud and by the time she turned around, it appeared to be a massive wave of popcorn coming down the little strip of road where she was. Without much time to really make a decision as to what to do, it hit her full force, knocking her off her feet so that all that could be seen was one brown boot up in the air.

Dunstan had decided to come check out the vendors and had been near the popcorn vendor when the chaos happened. The smell of burning hit his nose and the smell of popcorn was everywhere. He turned his head to see a brown boot up in the air and a bird landing on said boot to pick at the popcorn surrounding it.

Dunstan did assume the boot belonged to a person buried in popcorn so he rushed over and shooed the bird away and began scooping popcorn away from the supposed person. He didn't want to risk using magic just yet in case he accidentally harmed them.

Effie enjoyed browsing the little monthly markets. It gave her something to do and a reason to get out of the house, away from her father. Sometimes she met up with her brother, sometimes she didn't. Today he had been under the weather, so she walked the paths alone with hands clasped behind her back. She heard a commotion coming from the next row of stalls over. Curiously, she sped up her steps until she reached the area where the paths intersected, which was curiously covered in popcorn. The trail of popcorn led to a troll-sized heap of it nearby, and a man digging through it.

She blinked, hands still clasped casually behind her back as she told him dryly, "I don't think it's free to eat, even if it's on the ground."

Just how did she always wind up in predicaments like this? Honestly she was going to start just going to work and going home, no more social events, no more daily jaunts. Something always went awry and she always made a fool of herself!

The popcorn was still moving down the street a little and Tabi struggled to make heads or tails of which way was up. "Help!" She managed after finding enough control of her limbs to move some of the popcorn away from her face. This dress was going to be ruined too. How did this keep happening?

Dunstan glanced at the woman speaking to him. Did it look like he was eating the popcorn? Had she missed the booted foot protruding from the popcorn? "There's someone buried under the popcorn," he said before turning back to what he was doing just as a womans voice called up from the heap. He unearthed some of a leg and moved a little more upwards to try finding her hand. At least some of her face was now visible as well.

Effie thought he might mean that he was going to eat the person that was beneath the popcorn (whom she supposed was also not free?), but the feminine call for help, along with a pretty face she vaguely recognized, had her dashing to the pile as well. Was this the popcorn seller? Had they caused it to go on the fritz? "Here!" She exclaimed and shoved both hands into the popcorn pile in the area she guessed the woman's hands would be, "Grab my hand!"
