Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

A dropped letter of romance
#1
March 28th, 1895 - Great Hall after breakfast
Violetta was running later for breakfast today and was one of the last students to finish before heading to class, she had been distracted by several letters that had arrived to her from both her parents and from a gentleman she dreamed about since she was young and had now finally met at a lovely dinner with him and her parents. As expected, he was quite a bit older than her, but he was polite and very handsome so she was not disappointed.

She packed up her letters slipped them into her books and stood up, she had just a few minutes to have a gentle digestive walk across the courtyard before class. But in her haste, she dropped a single folded piece of paper out of her book onto the stone floor behind her. It lay there unsealed for someone to pick up.

(written in French)
Quote:Dear Miss DeCroix,

I wish to write to you following our meeting a fortnight ago. I had the most enchanting evening with you and your parents, whilst I have met them several times in your absence, I am yet to tell you the respect I have for them. They are a delightfully romantic couple and I hope to one day emulate your father's devotion.

We did not get much time to discuss things personally amongst ourselves which was disappointing, but not unexpected. You are the most beautiful young woman I have ever had the chance to meet, the descriptions and paintings that I have seen do not do you justice, you left me feeling quite out of my league on that front. I look forward to meeting you again soon, I am seeking your parents' permission for us to promenade at the park on your next Hogsmeade day, I believe your aunt said that she may be able to accommodate such.

Regarding the rumours about you and Mister Frey. I would be lying if I were to suggest it had not been something I had given much thought on before meeting you. But I shall accept your explanation that this was simply a carelessly handled friendship and consider the matter closed. We are all entitled to make mistakes and I trust that going forward you shall take more care in the matter.

Counting down the days until we meet again.

Yours faithfully,
François Du Pont

The happy blonde girl would walk away from her dropped letter, only making it as far as the door to the courtyard before it was spotted by someone. Hopefully a friend might spot it and chase her down to hand it back to her unread, but this is Hogwarts after all.
