1866 — 1877
1866: the firstborn child of bertrand and susanna ellis arrives, a healthy baby boy the couple names joshua hayward ellis. he is an easy babe, largely unremarkable from the start, but then, who's truly remarkable as an infant?
1868: a second child is born, a daughter the couple name deborah. joshua, now two years of age, begins the earliest stages of education — primarily focused on language and speech, though he often learns important new words through play.
1871: at five, joshua is given the opportunity to name his first foal — a colt he chooses to name storm mane. shortly thereafter, his father tells him that, in fact, storm mane is to be joshua's first horse! joshua, understandably, is quite ecstatic. before year's end, joshua's second sister arrives and is named sophie.
1873: finally. finally! joshua gets a baby brother! joshua isn't the most thrilled about his baby brother's name — winston — but he's excited to have a brother anyway. his riding lessons with storm mane take off in earnest.
1875: joshua's first act of magic is a tantrum — triggered by, of all things, overhearing worried comments from his parents about the fact that he hasn't shown any signs of magic yet. after he's talked down by his mother, his parents ensure that he's just a late bloomer, that there's nothing wrong with him.
july 1877: joshua's hogwarts acceptance letter arrives with much celebration. his parents purchase him an owl, whom he promptly names alistair. where exactly he gets the name, no one's sure, but he just says the owl "looks like an alistair."

1877 — 1884
1877 — 1879: upon arriving at hogwarts, joshua is promptly sorted into and welcomed by the house of loyal hufflepuff. he takes to the house quickly, making many new friends. he also takes well to...well, most of his lessons. the only real exception is herbology — he's never been much for getting his hands particularly dirty. during one second-year class, he mouths off, calling it "poor man's work," and earns his first (and only) detention.
1879 — 1882: moving into his owl years, joshua signs up to take ancient runes as an elective — the only course that seems particularly interesting to him out of those offered. he keeps his nose clean, does his work, and signs up for dueling club in fourth year.
1882 — 1884: when his owl grades arrive, joshua is faced with the difficult decision of narrowing his schedule down. he eventually decides on ancient runes, charms, defense against the dark arts, and transfiguration — a solid array of courses, though nothing stellar, and mostly at his mother's suggestion to only take the courses he excelled in at the owl level. he also signs up to join the music club's choir as a tenor, now that his schedule is more open. during defense class in his seventh year, he finally manages to produce a fully formed patronus, taking the form of a surprising mountain hare.

1884 — present
july 1884: joshua's newt grades arrive and are celebrated, but it quickly becomes apparent that he has little to no interest in working. instead, he begins planning a world tour.
1885 — 1887: joshua goes on his near two year long adventure around the world. the trip wasn't planned to take so long, but he continuously found some reason or another to stay longer in each stop, extending his trip with each day.
1887: joshua returns on his sister deborah's wedding day, arriving home during the wedding breakfast — surprising the bride and everyone in attendance at the ellis household. his return is celebrated, of course, but the groom...doesn't take kindly to his sudden reappearance.
1889: bertrand and joshua are on a hunt when bertrand's horse is spooked and throws his rider — the worst betrayal for the horse-breeder. the fall is devastating, as bertrand dies on collision with the hard ground, and all of a sudden, joshua is the head of the household. joshua takes a step back from riding, though he becomes much more involved in the breeding program on the estate — his father's pride and joy, now his responsibility.
1892: joshua's first real family event as head of household is his sister sophie's wedding — to one of his own classmates, even! until the engagement, he'd had no idea his classmate was even interested in his sister, but he's happy nonetheless.
1893: with his sisters' futures secured, susanna ellis turns her matchmaking tricks onto joshua — and he knows its about time he find a wife. he must set a good example for winston. he must find a wife and secure the ellis family name. duty is first and foremost on his mind, though he wouldn't mind falling in love. he just knows it's highly unlikely.
