1867 | Ilyas is born to muggle Rafiq Bashir and his wife, Fatima, whom he had met and married in Ottoman Syria while visiting family. The couple remained in Syria for six months before returning to London, where Rafiq continued his work as a solicitor.

1872 | Ilyas is five years old when he displays his first sign of magic. Ilyas had torn his room apart in search of his favorite toy—a small stuffed horse he'd had since birth—and had fully intended to clean it up, except Baba had yelled from down the hall that he'd left it in one of the dining room chairs. He rushed out to get it and went to play outside, leaving his room a mess.... until Mama yells so loud that Ilyas can hear from the streets. She yells at him for TWO MINUTES straight once he returns inside, and just as he's about to start crying every single thing in the room that wasn't on the floor suddenly is. It's like an earthquake has hit the room, except there's no shaking and nothing outside of the room is damaged. Mama is frightened, but Ilyas is more relieved that she's stopped yelling.

1878 | It is the summer after his eleventh birthday when Ilyas is informed that he is, in fact, a wizard. His parents take the news relatively well—they are frightened, and thus more eager to send him off to the school that promises to be able to teach him to control his powers. They affectionately part at King's Cross station in September, and Ilyas joins the rest of the magical youth at Hogwarts. He is sorted into Hufflepuff, which means nothing to him at first.
