So, Tiberius Lestrange has been studying to become an Animagus for nearly the past two years. Two years is the mark where characters can start making the leap from studying Animagi to actually becoming Animagi according to our board rules, but I'm super conflicted about it because he has been doing this so wrong.
Tiberius got an E in NEWT Transfiguration and everything, but it's not like it's his passion. He isn't even particularly interested in doing it; he sort of lazily picked it up because it was another Prestigious Magical Thing he could add to his repertoire along with legilimency, occlumency, dark arts, and whatever he does in the DoM. The only reason his interest in it lasted any longer than a month was that Antigone started studying it, and he's hardly going to let his wife become an Animagus while he's not. They're too competitive for that.
That being said, for the past year or so she's been doing most of her studying in secret and he's more or less assumed she's given up on it, so while he hasn't stopped studying it, his approach to it has been passive/lazy. Based on the amount of effort he's put in so far, he really shouldn't be able to successfully do a transformation at the two year mark.
That being said, he's also 1) cocky and confident and 2) enjoying one of the weirdest relationship dynamics with his wife ever, so he's going to start obsessing about it when Antigone makes the change and it's not going to be terribly long before he attempts to do it himself.
I want to see if I can approach this with some air of random generation (like a dice roll), but it's also kind of a big fucking deal for that since the consequences are potentially life altering. I've played him for so long that I'm really not comfortable with just putting up six random outcomes and leaving it to fate. So I'm soliciting advice/opinions/ideas for:
— things that could reasonably delay the animagus transformation, in order to force him into a more realistic timeline than his overconfidence allows for;
— things that could go wrong with the transformation without resulting in making Tiberius difficult to continue to play.
I also haven't decided what his animagus form would be yet if he does eventually successfully pull this off, so if you're familiar with him as a character and have a suggestion (with your rationale, please, not just "lmao it'd be funny if he was a gnat") I'm very open to those!
