Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

2020 Reading Lists

We're Reading... 2020

Members are invited to keep track of their own reading list for the year using whatever format they like—maybe they feel like including a small shot of the cover, a review, their preferred wine pairing? Maybe they only list what they finish, or they want to list everything they’ve got on tap too!  Whichever route you choose, we’re excited to see which books you’ve lost yourself in Smile

We ask only two things:
  • Spoilers in spoiler tags, please!
  • Don’t break the page or the code >.>

Don't forget, starting a discussion on one of your books can help to earn you our Charming Book Club Stamps!

For formatting and tracking ideas, refer to our 2019 Reading Lists! <3

Books finished:

Go Ask Alice by Alice X. but really it's some lady that writes Drugs Are Bad books.
It's written in diary format, about a teenage girl from a good American family doing drugs. Silly me actually believed at first it was based on a true story. It's not, it's fake. No wonder I fall for fuckboy's tricks, I'm so gullible.

Death of a Red Heroine by Qiu Xiaolong
It's a detective mystery book set in 1990s China. The national example of a working woman is murdered and they're investigating her case. I liked it because it gives a lot of information about what 90s China was like.

I go through too many books (I've been back into retro young adult horror/thriller type books from like the 90's xD which are all short lately) to make updating a full list feasible so here's my goodreads 2020 books read list which I automatically update since I use it to keep track of which Nightmare Hall and Point Horror books I've read so far!

I too am going to link my goodreads because I will never remember to update here as proven by last year. Here! I may come back and edit this post if I find a book that I feel everyone needs to know of. Maybe.

Goodreads. I only do finished or want to read as I don't have the patience/fucks to update the what I'm reading part.

MARCH RECOMMENDATION:
City of Girls.
  • Female-heavy cast of characters.
  • Set in 1940s New York during the build up to the US joining the war and then the war years themselves.
  • Complex LGBT characters who run a theatre together and bicker about budgets.
  • Dressmaking porn.
  • The coldest burn I have ever read in any book ever.

I might make a discussion threads for this even if it's just me shouting into the void about how excellent it is.

I haven't read a lot since high school (#whoops) but covid-19 has had me searching from an escape from the real world, so I've read a few more books than usual!

Read:
Red, White, & Royal Blue, by Casey McQuiston
Bringing Down the Duke, by Evie Dunmore
A Court of Thorns and Roses, by Sarah J, Maas
The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue, by Mazkenzi Lee
I'm Thinking of Ending Things, by Ian Reid (there's a Netflix movie coming out and you should definitely read the book before watching it.)

Currently Reading:
Midnight Sun, by Stephanie Meyer
The Dark Tide, by Alicia Jasinska
Party of Two, by Jasmine Guillory

To Read:
Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott
One to Watch, by Kate Stayman-London
Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte
Raising White Kids, by Jennifer Harvey
A Court of Mist and Fury, by Sarah J. Maas
Red Queen, by Victoria Aveyard
To All the Boys I've Loved Before, by Jenny Han (I bought all three at Target!)
As Old As Time: A Twisted Tale, by Liz Braswell

I also bought a literal 10 lb. Shakespeare book with all of his works so I will be reading through that from home where I won't have to tote it around >.>
