Her anger had faded frustratingly quickly, but it could not be helped. The dragon Dagda was just too enchanting - and dangerous too, with its childish innocence serving to conceal its true nature. She unconsciously moved closer to Jamie, watching wide-eyed as the dragon took after the stick he'd tossed in the other direction.

"Do you think he'll ever survive alongside the others?" she asked concernedly, glancing up towards Jamie. "I mean, he's going to grow to be big and strong eventually, right?" Thought admittedly a bit frightening with his size, Dagda was still a living creature; Bella would hate to see him be an outcast like her - or worse, end up dead. If need be, she'd personally drag Dagda around the Hebrides to keep him occupied!

Jamie was all too aware that she'd moved closer to him. It was a frustrating realization, one he was decidedly trying to ignore as he simply watched the dragon bound about in search of the stick. He'd gone right over it though and a few paces too far, leaving for a confused dragon glancing around in search of the prized possession.

He gave her a shrug at her question but didn't dare to look at her. He could almost feel the concern and worry emanating from her with her questions in regards to Dagda's well being. "Dunno," he answered simply, "We keep 'im separated for the time being. He wouldn't survive with them right now. If he gets a bit bigger, he might hold his own." But the might was a big one. There was a reason there were only so many adult dragons in the MacFusty care. Many didn't make it out of their toddling years. It was very much a survival of the fittest between them and the dragons tended to get territorial the older and bigger they got. They would die fighting more often than not.

"Might?" she questioned, touching his arm concernedly. Bella had never been a notable animal-lover - but then again, she'd never taken Care of Magical Creatures, and her teenage years in Wellingtonshire had been devoid of any pets. Truthfully, her teenage years had been devoid of any exploration of her interests, and even her healing ambition hadn't been driven by a particular interest in the field.

What was certain was Bella's protective nature, both over humans and (apparently) creatures. "You wouldn't let anything happen to him, would you?" she pressed, glancing back and forth between Jamie and the toddling. "You wouldn't - I know you wouldn't. He's just a baby. I won't let anything happen to him."

Her slight touch on Jamie's arm was enough to send a jolt through his entire body, one he wasn't all that keen on experiencing if he were being honest. Feeling anything beyond annoyance about the woman wasn't something he could really afford. She was an employee of Mac's. Quite off limits. Especially when it came to the way he handled his own dalliances. She likely wasn't a woman that he could bed and then forget about.

He shook himself and focused on what she was saying instead. "That's not quite how it works, lass," he said quietly but calmly, "There's a way with the dragons. It's always been survival of the fittest. We cannot interfere much more than we already do. If we did, Scotland would be overrun with them and we can't have that either." He wasn't always happy with the way it went, especially when one such as Dagda came along, but there was nothing to be done for it.

"But who knows, he may surprise us all," he said with a slight shrug before he finally turned to look at her once more, "We best be on our way. He's going to be hungry soon and need to hunt. We shouldn't be here when it's time for that."

She couldn't call herself an dragon expert, but there were certain points he'd made that she quickly found rebuttals to. "But Jamie," she complained, gripping his forearm tighter and giving it a little tug. "One little dragon far away from the others couldn't do much harm. Dagda's the last one that could overrun Scotland."

She released his arm, knowing that no matter how hard she tried, the likelihood of her being able to do anything for Dagda was slim. "We'll come back and see him soon," she said, less of a request and more of a statement. "None of that 'survival of the fittest' nonsense; I'll do whatever I can to make sure he stays safe."

The woman was exasperating, that much Jamie was certain of. He'd have to leave such explanations to Mac. Maybe he could talk some sense into her. But then again, maybe he couldn't. It seemed to him that she was a rather stubborn lass and didn't like to give up on things she thought a worthy cause. Her grip on his arm, however, was more of a distraction than her words and he was reluctantly happy when she finally released him.

He brought the arm in front of him and rubbed at it where she'd gripped his forearm. She hadn't hurt him, of course, but her touch still seemed to burn the flesh of his forearm. He stifled the shudder he felt at it and simply gave her a nod when she finally seemed to heed his words enough to where they could leave. He easily guided her a little ways away from where Dagda and settled on the ground for a brief snooze. The dragon would wake up hungry and he didn't want to be there when that happened. Once far enough away from where the dragon rested, he pulled Miss Scrimgeour next to him and side along apparated them away from the island.
