Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Private
Present For Sister
#1
March 1st, 1888 - Slytherin Table/Great Hall

It had been too long since Acacia had spent some quality time with Chrysanta. With trying to get adjusted to school, and working as hard as she could on her class work. To be fair, she hadn't been trying too hard to reach out. Mainly out of fear of new rejection, after all of the negativity. The idea of those like Maddie or Mr. Quirrell looking at her differently did scare her. Rejection did scare her. And right now, she could not handle that fear well enough.

Having made a painting of Hogwarts once more, just like several other times, she had decided to give it as a gift to her sister, in hopes of showing her younger sister that she was still there for her. Acacia would always worry about her sisters, that was a given, but Chrysanta always gave her the most to worry about. It wasn't the Slytherin's fault, at least not entirely.

Going over to the Slytherin table, Acacia waited patiently for Chrysanta to finish speaking to... Miss Whitledge, before tapping her lightly on the shoulder, giving a soft smile to her little sister. Though the age difference wasn't much, it was still there. "I have a present for you." She said softly. As always, Acacia tried to be nurturing, the way their mother never had.

Though Crystal loved her older sister, she wasn't all that open to speaking with the Ravenclaw for no reason. This was one of those times she would have preferred to not to be bothered by Acacia. She knew Cia cared, and after their mother had left, she'd been the only female for Crystal to look up to, even if the Ravenclaw wasn't even (technically) a year older.

She looked up as her sister said something. She was slightly confused as to why her sister would give her a painting. Was it so Acaica had a reason to make sure she wasn't dying? But why approach in the Great Hall? It really didn't make sense to Crystal. "Why?" she asked curiously. If it came across rude, she didn't mean it that way.

Annoying at times as her motherly nature might be, Acacia at least gave an effort in helping her siblings through life. Though she was stiff at times, there could never be a doubt in their minds that she loved them. Although, that could just be her hope whispering in her ear. Still, she was just trying to show that she cared.

The response was not fully expected, but Acacia simply, lightly, sighed. "Because I care about you." She said simply. Did Chrysanta even like it? Or was it too cheesy? Too stupid? Sometimes, it was hard to tell what her sister was thinking. "Do you not like it?" She asked, her smile slightly fading.

Oh. Well, that made more sense to Crystal than Cia making sure she wasn't dead. Still, Crystal didn't feel the need for tokens of such. She knew Acacia cared, and she didn't need a painting to recognise that. "I... Just... I don't need a painting, or anything, to know - and remember - that you care." She loved her sister's art and mothering way, but again, it wasn't needed.

Part of Acacia knew that this was just Chrysanta's natural reaction, but another part was saddened that her sister seemed unwilling to accept her gift. Still, she gave a small, but quite caring, smile to her sister. "I know, but it's still nice. I like giving you gifts." She said lightly.

Crystal gave her sister a weak smile. "Thank you." What else could she say, without possibly insulting her sister more?

Acacia smiled lightly again, though there wasn't as much emotion to it. "Do you want the painting?" She asked softly.

"Of course I will." Crystal said in a soft tone. She would always take a present from her sister, even if she didn't see the point of it the token.

Acacia was glad that at least her gift was accepted. She held it out for her sister to take, not fully knowing where to put it. Of course she would not want someone's food to ruin it, but hopefully the painting would stay safe and clean for her sister.

Crystal whiped off her hands and took her sister’s gift. She gave the Ravenclaw another weak smile as she placed the painting on her lap. She’d have to get a better look at it when she didn’t feel like her sister was judging her. She didn’t mind the portrait resting on her lap. She wasn’t that hungry, anyway.

Acacia felt that she may have taken up too much of her sister's time, especially from Miss Whitledge. "Well, I shall leave you to finish your meal with your friend. Perhaps we can spend some time together soon, just the two of us." She suggested. Thinking a moment, she decided that such a thing could be discussed at a later time. "But, we can talk about that another time, enjoy the rest of your day." She added, wanting to give her sister space. Giving a polite nod to Miss Whitledge, she turned and headed to her own table. Even if the older brother was judging and didn't like her, that didn't mean all of the Whitledge siblings were like that, and Acacia was going to be polite even if all of the family had the same opinion as Handsome Whitledge.
