April 3rd, 1895 - Honeydukes
It was hard not to feel like all eyes were on her even though Sage realistically knew nobody was paying much attention to them. She felt like there was a beam of light directed at her, making the the excursion today some sort of proclamation of the situation she found herself in. Still, she knew she couldn't hide away forever and rumors were already swirling around town, even nobody had said anything about Maggie being one of theirs. What worried Sage the most was just how much her daughter looked like her and it was hard to miss if one looked close enough. It was what it was at this point however, so she was going to do her best to keep her chin up and act like they were just taking in the niece that the family claimed her to be.
It was a rare day off for her and as tired as she was from working the night shift, Sage knew there were errands to run. The press was whirring and spitting out whatever the latest project was and she didn't want to be in the way. They had already gone to the post office and said hello to the owls after posting some letters. Then they'd gone to Gladrags to pick up the two new sets of clothes that Maggie needed. She was growing like a weed, even now, barely half a year later and Sage could only mend her current clothes so much before she needed new things. Fortunately she had some extra shifts coming up and would be able to make up the difference. It was in moments like this that Sage wondered if she shouldn't reach out to Locke for his help, but the shame that burned through her kept her from doing so.
They were managing, it was fine. They would make it work. They had one more stop to make, but as they passed Honeyduke's Maggie was drawn to the colorful display in the window. Sage allowed herself to be tugged toward the sweet shop with a smile on her lips. Her daughter's eyes were wide in wonder and Sage took a moment to check her coin purse to see how much was left. Enough for the last stop and maybe one treat from inside. "Come on, let's have a peek." She whispered as she leaned down, the smile reflected on her daughter's features melting her heart.
Honeyduke's was just as she remembered it, even if she didn't get to stop in very often. The bright colors and heavenly smells beckoned them back, meandering at a leisurely pace while Sage reminded Maggie not to touch anything. "Oh watch out, Love," she reached out to pull Maggie toward her so she wasn't in the way of the person trying to pass. "Sorry it's her first time in." She chuckled while Mags skirted out of her grasp to look at something else.
