Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

It had been a day of shopping. Mainly for new outfits for her and Holly. Both had grown since last summer, and each season meant new styles. If one did not keep up with styles, how could they possibly present their status? So it was rather anger inducing when someone accidentally caused her dress to drop out of her hands and into the mud.

"Excuse me! Would you be so kind as to watch your step as you go?" She said as she turned to who she felt was the likely culprit.

They still had some more shopping to do; Cora's vision was beginning to blur, even she was getting tired of the day. She mentally shook herself awake before sighing and beckoning her chaperone towards the entrance. She covered her mouth and stifled a yawn, exiting the shop before taking a left. Her shoulder caught something and she blinked in surprise as her senses were assaulted by a very loud echo that tasted of spices. She blinked and looked down to see a familiar face glaring up at her.

In a quick survey of the scene, Cora understood what had caused the younger girl to scowl so. Oh dear, she blinked, before resisting the urge to raise a judgemental eyebrow. Who, especially in the upper crust of society, purchased a dress and carried it out unpackaged like this? Nevertheless, she plastered a concerned and apologetic expression on her face and put a hand to her heart. "Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry!" she said, cursing that she couldn't bring out her wand. Curse the no magic outside of Hogwarts.

The fellow Gryffindor certainly was lucky that she hadn't bumped into Holly and it hadn't been Holly's dress that had been dropped. The Slytherin might have hexed the fellow student, regardless of the no underage magic laws.

The employee at the shop had forgotten the packaging, and Camille was far less of a brat than her sister and had decided to not make a fuss of the matter. She clearly should have. But Camille had been careful. The fifth year - ... sixth year? - had not. But the more sensible Scrimgeour was a fair bit more easy to forgive than her sister. She let out a sigh of mild frustration as she glanced at her dress.

Was the girl so disappointed in her own actions she'd struck herself mute, or was she just that concerned about her dress? The stare the younger girl fixed upon the scene did little to strike a chord with Cora's sympathies despite the expression upon the fifth year's face, however, she placed a hand on her chaperone, casting her a glance. Given her condition, she could literally feel the annoyance radiating off of the girl. "Please allow me to remedy this situation," she said, when the girl still didn't say anything. Lord in Heaven, was she to conduct this conversation entirely on her own? "Would that I could repair it myself," she could but she wasn't physically able to, given the rules, "but all hope is not lost!" she supplied cheerfully. Cordelia herself might not be able to do magic however, her chaperone was more than capable of doing so. Honestly, why the girl hadn't commanded her own chaperone to cast scourgify was beyond Cora though on second thought, therein lay the reason she wasn't sorted into Ravenclaw.

The spell thus cast, the dress flew back to the girl and hovered serenely in front of her. Cora smiled politely, an expectant look upon her face.

As a polite young woman of society, it would have been quite unladylike to use the words that were floating around her head as she had dared not speak. So it took her a bit longer to speak, of fear of being rather rude. Forgiving as she was, she was still a Gryffindor. And Gryffidor's did have their tempers.

Breath, she told herself. Simply breath. She only let disappointment show on her face, though a rebellious feeling of annoyance made a subtle appearance in her eyes. 'All hope is not lost'? Well that was a hint too dramatic of a statement in Camille's opinion. She gave the chaperone a polite smile as she took her fixed dress. "Thank you. Next time I'll be more outspoken when an employee makes a mistake." She said carefully. Watch the temper. No need for dramatics.

She would only be more outspoken next time because she knew what to look out for now, Cora thought. At least she had her manners. "Of course!" she said, waving a dismissal hand in the air. "It wasn't any trouble," Really it was, despite it not taking any energy from Cora or her companion. Now they were to be late for supper with the family, and although the younger girl's words were polite, Cora didn't need any extra abilities to know the girl was still annoyed.

Not much she could do in that department. "Might you be needing any other assistance we could offer you?" she inquired, sincerely hoping she wouldn't be held behind any longer.

That thought might have earned the girl a slap, if Camille forgot her manners. But the thought was not said, and Camille was remembering her own manners. It was a trouble, for Camille. Though she gave a polite nod in response.

Camille had a urge to request more assistance, out of pure spite. But nothing came to mind. What a pity. "No thank you. We best be on our way."
