Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

April 12th, 1895 - Cordelia's London Townhouse

"He tried to take the dogs!" Cordelia couldn't believe she hadn't yet gotten a chance to regale Sina with Hadrian's latest hairbrained scheme. It had been nearly six months since her ex-husband had tried to make off with their previously shared dogs and Delia had been seething for a few weeks after, but in the aftermath of trying to secure finding and then the holidays, everything had gotten lost in the fray.

They were sitting at her little kitchen table, tea and a little sampling of sandwiches between them. Delia knew her reputation post-divorce had lost her friends, but she was glad Sina had stuck around, especially after her husband had been elected minister. Dee would have understood if Sina had to keep her distance, but she was grateful for the friendship regardless. "Had the gall to pretend he was there for some of his things. Clearly he hadn't been missing what was in the house, otherwise he would have made an effort sooner." It was appalling really. Delia couldn't pinpoint if she was more frustrated by his nerve or by the fact that he could still rile her up so much.

"I do not know how he could possibly have thought that would work," she huffed, bringing her tea to her pursed lips.

Thomasina had not borne Hadrian Nott particular ill-will before the divorce, but she certainly did now — if a man got to keep a decent reputation and most of the property and wealth in a divorce, then a woman got to keep the dogs, especially if the man was as reckless as Hadrian Nott was.

"I'm starting to think that he's not very smart," Sina said archly, after a sip of tea. "Have you done anything to demonstrate his gall to him?"

(Obviously, vengeance would have to be had.)

Delia snorted. Once upon a time she would have viciously defended Hadrian from any negative comments, but honestly, so much had happened that she couldn't even find the energy to drum up a contesting comment. "I made a right fool of him at the time, but it likely won't stop him from trying something foolish again." Foolish ought to be Hadrian Nott's middle name.

"Do you think I should?" Delia had been plenty embarrassed throughout their mostly messy divorce; it was part of the reason that she'd taken her maiden name back, so she was not above revenge, but she wasn't sure just how much energy she wanted to spend on Hadrian these days. She had far more pressing matters to attend to with Cindy and securing the last of her needs for a trip to India.
