Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

To Avalon And Beyond

Hi all! Here is the long-promised and long-delayed plot thread for the expedition, which went underway April 22nd and is scheduled to return June 30th. The two ships are the Ophelia (the flagship, lead by 'the Commodore' who I think I named in a DP article but have already forgotten the name of) and the Voyager (a smaller ship captained by J. Alfred Darrow).

I'm going to be totally honest and tell you all that between the initial planning thread months ago and the board move and whatnot, I have entirely lost track of which characters are on this expedition and which are active and all that jazz. So, uh, shout if you want a thread because I will not be present enough to seek you out otherwise. Want to join? No problem! IC, all characters must be present for the entire expedition (no "late arrivals"), but OOC you can throw your existing/newly active/brand new characters at this whenever you feel like it.

Who would be on this expedition?
Sailors; these would consist of WC, probably uneducated deck sailors, as well as more skilled seamen. The latter might be officers (primarily MC) or experienced deck sailors who worked their way up (WC or MC).
Academics; any expedition would traditionally bring along a small cadre of specialists in various fields (which were often just hobbyists who were cool with leaving home for months on end) to document any new discoveries and collect specimens of things, such as botanists, 'naturalists' (VE era anthropologists), biologists, etc. etc. The expedition I read about specifically brought a dude whose job it was to collect seashells, so really all things are possible.
Support Staff; any myriad of occupations that doesn't fall into the above two categories. Each ship would have a healer, someone skilled in cartography to chart out any new things they find, a carpenter or shipbuilder for repairs, kitchen staff, someone to take care of the owls (Kit's playing one of them), etc. etc. If you need ideas come find me and we can chat about what might be reasonable.

THREAD IDEAS!
- there's a thread up for the Voyager folks upon discovering a stowaway
- At some point I want a thread on the Isle of Drear with whomever would like to come from the crew of the Voyager. Since it's unplottable, I feel like they could be like ZOMG GUYS WE FOUND A HIDDEN UNPLOTTABLE ISLAND THIS IS TOTALLY IT and then spend their time running away from Quintapeds and finally make it back onto the ship and be like ".........so that probably wasn't it." I also want someone to lose a limb to a quintaped but if no one volunteers we can make that NPC Sailor Timmy.
- I need a thread onboard the Voyager for ~character development at some point. No requirements as to who so long as the player is able to keep the thread active and moving. I don't have an IC timeline for this but do have an OOC thing that has to happen first so can't start it tomorrow or anything. Just let me know if you're down for possibly rapid-firing or at least posting fairly consistently for the sake of my needs Smile
- Storms ahoy? I was looking up the weather in Kent in 1888 for other reasons and it said it snowed in June that year, so maybe the crew could chance upon a snow storm and be like "we are CLEARLY LOST we have gone BEYOND THE REACH OF SUMMER" and panic can ensue xD
- encounter with a sea serpent results in damage to the ship(s)
- a run-in with a Muggle ship (merchants? Royal Navy? pirates?) goes awry and we end up with possibly some violations of the Statute of Secrecy - or possibly a ship chase or something equally thrilling. Get our your best Master & Commander stance for this one
- Whatever your ideas are! I'm open!

MJ made the most Alfredy of sets and then two years later she made it EVEN BETTER

I call dibs on being the owl boy for the owls on Alfreds ship. I also volunteer to have lost limb. why not, who needs two legs anyway, superfluous at best. or an arm.

Eugene returned from the Avalon Expedition minus a leg.
