Otis Seabrook 23 | WCHB rep » 6 | unattached Dancer ❧

If you frequent the magical nightlife or have been to a ball recently, chances are you might have seen Otis Seabrook (aka Othello) perform for a crowd. He's a skilled dancer, incorporating levitation and fire into his routine - both are crowd pleasers. Otis lives in Diagon Alley in a small, yet neat, flat. Definitely out of his price range, if it weren't for a handful of generous benefactors who leave him cash gifts in exchange for...various services. To make himself more enticing, Otis has actively spread (and never denied) a rumour that he is half-Veela. The Upper Class may see him as a novelty or exotic accessory, but he is perfectly fine with this, since it has given him access to small luxuries. Here are a few plots/connections that I have been thinking about for Otis: Famiy/Friends | Specifically, the UCPB family that Otis father was the groundskeeper for (I'm hoping a suitable one already exists). This family has always been good to him, paid for Healer fees and his trip to Hogwarts. Otis is thankful for being given a chance to have a better life than the previous generation. They will have also had 2-3 children around Otis' age (so now in their 20s). I'm envisioning 2 girls, 1 boy but pretty flexible. Otis hasn't been back to see his family in years, but I could see him being close friends with some of the UC offspring. Also, side note: The family doesn't actually need to be "good"; they could have just been decent to their employees. Benefactors | Otis is always looking out for men who are willing to fund his art with their considerable wealth (think Anthony & Siena, the opera singer, in Bridgerton). I'm open to some simple transactions but also more complicated, long-term entanglements like jealousy, secrecy, and any sort of drama. That being said, if a lady were in possession of too much money, Otis would not say no. Dance lesson | If any UC people require a dance tutor (for themselves or their children), Otis might also be able to help. I don't think he's the most patient teacher, but he's nice to look at hehe. MC/WC | Otis works at The Velvet Veil pretty regularly and frequents artist hangouts in London. Poets, musicians etc. are probably people he is drawn to and would consider friends. Although fair warning, he's pretty flaky and a little self-absorbed. Enemies | Definitely up for making enemies, but no concrete thoughts yet. There will certainly be people who dislike half-breeds. A necessary evil to keep the rumour alive. There could also be UC people who don't want him mingling at their exclusive events and may threaten him. Romance | Again, no immediate plan, but very much up for anything dramatic or sweet. Mature threads are also totally ok.

Hello from a fellow poor!

Charley's my street urchin, who's now hosted by the upper-middle class Mrs. Themis Lyra in Magical London, but spent the last three years on her own in Hogsmeade. She's scrappy with a biting tongue, and not as much magic as she'd like to back it up. Making a friend who is a dancing marble statue —I mean a pale white ghost — safe to say she'd have opinions on Otis, but usually well-meaning— would be very useful for an urchin trying to learn the back alleys of Diagon's as much as she knows Hogsmeade's.

She also has a delivery service that she'd like to expand into Hogsmeade if you'd rather be a budding new customer. Or an enemy, she always has room for more haters and people to judge her for wearing boy's clothes, speaking before she thinks, and not at all making herself appealing for marriage in the future.

A more organized version of the Discord brain dump, er-hem~

Olixander Blackwood - my most likely candidate for immediate things. He is a hedonistic debaucher by choice and spends a lot of time at the Velvet Veil. He has probably (no I know for a fact he has) made a pass at Otis before, but totally open if they have history or if Otis just ignores him lol. Oli spent a lot of time in Spain with his Sidonia fam up until very recently, and has returned as part of the Spanish Nat'l Quidditch team! He can be convinced to be anywhere, any time and any place. Probs sees Otis out on the social ton scene too. UCPB with a snot nose for muggleborn and halfbloods, but his other brain isn't picky.

Gilbert Prusseneit - my second most likely who will hate Otis just based on the fact that he's slept with looked at Matty at least once before. If/when he finds out they're exes-- run. [skull emoji] That said, Gil is a patron of the VV and spends a lot of time there too so he and Otis may have their own complicated history that I'm all for chatting about! Probs has hired him on at least one occasional like a rental car for one of his events lol (he does the same to Marlowe). All around, I'm sure we could find things here as needed/wanted or not!

Anthony Alderton - my precious, boring little vanilla bean. Anthony kept a dancer once as a side thing ( Sophia Lissington actually) and is not a member/frequentor of the VV. Too shady for his tastes. But-- he may have run into Otis through the ballet/opera before if he's at all part of those circles? Anthony misses Soph as they actually became rather good friends while sleeping together lol, and he is not particularly classist with his friends. He's also discovering newly that he may not be as straight as we all thought he was either (which, nobody is more surprised than I am but maybe I should have suspected; he's a fox character.) So potential for things there too, maybe.

Basil Foxwood - last but never least, is my sad little doe. Basil is the Ravenclaw HoH and Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts. He's very academically inclined, hates the social season and everything about it, and is demi-sexual but with an inclination towards men. Otis would scare every fibre of his traditionalist, I-hate-myself persona so that's always fun too. He probably has the least to offer but I throw him at anything that moves because I adore him so here we are. <3

Seojin Jeong - ok my really last offer is this nugget who is my most musey and has been to the Veil... once. Lol. But whose to say he doesn't recognize Otis on the street??? Jin is musically inclined; he loves to sing and he plays a lot of different instruments, but he's kept on a tight leash by his cruel, sadistic father as are his other 'brothers.' He's in a mostly committed, head-over-heels, very ill-advised relationship with Ahn-Bo Jeong but he also has ZERO friends. (Well, maybe one developing.) And honestly, I feel like Otis would be a good match maybe. So things hereee too!

And of course, when she comes along, dancer girl but tbd on her for now ~~ If you hate all of these, I can go back to the list and pull a few more lol. //squish

The Lukeson family are friendly UCPB and would have happily assisted their staff with their children attending Hogwarts if politely discussed! The main patriarch and matriarch of the current Lukeson siblings are no longer in the picture, but I have Jolie Lukeson and her sister (Sybille Lukeson) is currently inactive but in the picture! The Lukeson siblings do have more in numbers than 2-3, so it's a bit different than what you were imagining but let me know if they work.

I don't think Otis could hate a 15-year-old girl lol. Perhaps he finds her annoying (she probably let some far too honest thoughts about him slip that he could do without), but the sort of way a big brother finds her annoying, and will absolutely look out for her if she needs help.

Absolutely, if some of those are plottable events, Otis will be there. And maybe we can make a thread happen for them. He wouldn't dare ask him about the ruined engagement but he could be asked to incorporate something in his performance that lures a Lady over to François? Just thinking out loud.

WOW WOW WOW so much! I'll give you some more detailed thoughts on discord for some of them as well, so we can maybe plan some plots but here are some thoughts:
Olixander | ok here's a thought (and something to workshop). What if they did have something like a ONS but it was kinda bad? But maybe they have chemistry otherwise or one of them is more keen for a repeat than the other. I definitely think there's something here we can build on.

Gil | he genuinely scares me haha. And I think he would scare Otis, too. I would love to explore them more. For example I could see Gil hiring Otis just to make him feel like shit. (maybe once he does find out about him and Matty, that's how he confronts him *gulp*) And for the right amount of money, Otis would agree to be treated poorly...
But also, it'd be good to determine where they stand now because Matty has literally turned himself into Gil for the NYE party and has approached Otis lol. So maybe Otis knows that Gil definitely, definitely hates him and he will avoid him as much as possible? Would he know that Gil is a super ancient vampire?

Anthony | Otis will have performed in (more commercial) theatre performances, maybe not ballet, so up to you if Anthony would know him from there. I think it would be cute if he maybe recognised him and approached. Otis would absolutely love to be approached by a "fan" (totally his interpretation of the encounter, not mine).

Basil | look, I love Luke Thompson, so anything to hang out with Basil, tbh. They probably don't know each other yet (unless he taught at Hogwarts 8 years ago). But maybe a chance encounter. Otis could absolutely make him feel uncomfortable.

Seojin | Otis gets the strict, non-approving father so he could definitely be a friend and place to crash if he ever needed one. Maybe they met performing somewhere together - if Seojin does that at all.

The Lukeson's sound like a great fit, yes please. Number of children don't really matter, as long as there are some (the more, the merrier, really). I'd imagine Otis' father would still work there. Right now, we can assume his half-brother, too. I might one day make him a wanted and then it's up to someone whether he made a run for it or not, but until then, we can assume he's still there.

Jolie would be a good age to have been friends with Otis. She could have been his childhood dance partner for their ballroom lessons.

Aside from the walking tragedy that is Byron I also have:

Wren Banges is also working class and would be friendly. Probably fully believes the Veela rumours due to Otis being so pretty despite Veela only effecting the opposite sex in Charming lore xD.

Morgana Gaunt is working class and would have been in his year. She can be kind when it suits her but it often doesn't lol.

He handles whatever I make him handle jk lol. They could have had innocuous interactions during their crossover at school and with Byron being a Daily Prophet photographer, I can find a reason for him to be most places.

poor Byron lol. I did make a mention of a crush Otis had at Hogwarts that never went anywhere. Byron would have been 1-2 years ahead of him, so that could work out? I'd imagine they might have seen each other since if Byron is at a lot of events for work, but maybe Otis was too nervous to approach him...until now?

Wren| perfect, let's keep that one in mind. I think it could be fun to plot out. Maybe even with a time jump where he drops it off first and comes back a few days later?

Ari | Otis would just love to be someone's muse. Something to maybe play out? Maybe Ari goes up to him at a ball or some other public event?
