General | A tall, thin, and almost gangly woman who's never really filled into her height, Anne stands five feet, six inches tall, with a slim figure. Between her height and her mane of fiery hair, Anne would not be considered much of a catch. Her favorite feature of her own is her blue eyes. She is right-handed with wand and quill.

Expressions | Raised to be reserved, Anne only really shows her emotions with family, unless something really catches her off guard. Which can happen, but it's rare.

Deportment | Anne is confident in herself and her abilities, and she shows it in how she holds herself. She does not slouch, not even to make herself seem smaller, but she carries herself well.

1875 The third child and daughter of Lachlan and Edna McCandless is born.

1877 Anne is two when her father finally gets a son. Though she's not entirely aware of it, the family remains mostly in isolation for the duration of the year, with only Mother going to visit her clients. As a midwife to the magical community, she doesn't need to really go far.

1880 The fifth and final child of Lachlan and Edna is born, a fourth daughter. Anne, finally old enough to really understand what it means, doesn't entirely care much.

1882 Anne's first sign of magic goes entirely unnoticed by her family, but she doesn't really care, especially as her brother's first sign of magic is far more showy. She lets him have the spotlight.

First Year Upon arriving at Hogwarts, Anne is sorted into bold and brave Gryffindor — which seems out of character, but perhaps it's something to do with her selfless spirit. She's not spectacular at her studies, except in Charms. Still, she's putting in the effort.

1887-88
Second Year Although she's able to continue at least for a second year at Hogwarts, she continues to display middling skills at most of her classes, except Charms, and her skill at Potions is improving. But by the year's end, she tells her parents she would rather end her education here, so that her younger siblings have more of an opportunity to continue further.

1888 It's a difficult decision to leave Hogwarts, but it's an easy one to step into a role in service. At thirteen, she takes a position as a scullery maid in the Alardice household, and quickly proves herself a diligent worker. By the end of the year, the kitchen maid suggests to the cook that perhaps Anne would benefit from an education at the recently-opened Blishwick School of Domestic Magic. The cook speaks to the housekeeper, who mentions the idea to Mrs. Alardice during the process of planning for Christmas dinner. Mrs. Alardice says she'll think on the suggestion.

1889 In mid-January, Mrs. Alardice asks the housekeeper to bring Anne up to her room during breakfast. Anne, thinking she's about to get fired, walks into the bedroom with a somber air — only to learn that Mrs. Alardice intended to pay her tuition to Blishwick School of Domestic Magic's Introduction to Domestic Service course for female service employees. Anne is appropriately excited, and the housekeeper has to remind her that she ought to keep herself under control.

1889-91 She begins the course in May, going to and from class via Floo Monday through Thursday, and shadowing the housemaids on weekend days. For the first time, Anne excels in her education, taking to it like a duck to water. She's so exceptional at the course that, once she's graduated, she's immediately made a housemaid (though for the first couple of years, she'll need to do everything manually), and two of the older housemaids are put into the course to "brush up on their skills."

1892 At Mrs. Alardice's request, Anne is enrolled in the appropriate Cosmetic Techniques course in May, now that she's old enough. Once she completes the course, she is promoted in part to acting as personal maid to the Alardice daughters. She still has regular housemaid duties, of course, but her priority is Beatrix and Ellen.

1895 A sort of disaster strikes in the household, and Anne becomes the keeper of her secret shame — the guardian of perhaps the most damaging secret she's ever been made privy to. Beatrix is pregnant. In fact, Anne is the first to know — she alone is taking care of Beatrix's sheets in mid-June when she realizes Beatrix has missed her cycle. Rather than spilling the secret, Anne informs Beatrix and explains the circumstance, asking about her indulgence with Mr. Courtemanche in early May. She explains to a tearful Beatrix that in all likelihood, she is with child, and suggests she seek the advice of the family doctor. She promises to keep the secret until Beatrix is ready.
