January 11th, 1891 — The Gallivan Home
Ever since her encounter with Fitzroy Prewett at the muggle museum, Cee had been dying to talk about it with her friends. She had had crushes before, but this was different. She hadn't even felt this strongly about Beckett Longbottom! (Or so she thought, her friends likely remembered her gushing about him better than she did.)
How come she hadn't noticed how utterly perfect Fitzroy Prewett was? They had interacted before their encounter at the museum, but he had never struck Cee as anything special. He had even come over for tea at their home! She hadn't appreciated that encounter of theirs enough back then! She smiled to herself as she looked at the chair he'd occupied that day and nearly jumped when the maid brought in her friend.
"Zelda!"
They exchanged their greetings and once the maid left them alone, Cee asked her friend:
"How do you know that you are in love? Truly?" Quite dramatic she was if you asked me, but she truly fancied herself in love with Fitzroy Prewett.

At least she was allowed to see Cecily, still, without a sibling immediately around, and as soon as Cee got started on her conversation topic, Zelda was rather glad that they were by themselves. She didn't want to talk about being in love with Alfred with any of her family around, they would have hated it.
"Let me think about it for a second," Zelda said. She took a sip of her tea before she answered, still dwelling.
"You think about them all the time," Zelda said, "And you want to be with them, romantically, of course. But - I don't think you can say you're in love with someone until you're willing to give things up for them."

Going by Zelda's list, Cee was most certainly in love with Fitzroy Prewett. She couldn't get him out of her head ever since their encounter at the museum. She wanted him romantically and fantasized about his kiss in the dark of the night. She'd jinxed her muggle aunt and tampered with her memories after she'd caught them.
She felt somewhat guilty about the last part. Aunt Mary seemed so absent-minded ever since that day, or perhaps it was Cee's impression. Perhaps Aunt Mary had always been that way. Truth be told, Cee didn't know her muggle aunt that well. In any case, she didn't seem to remember catching her niece making out with a man.
"Zelda, I think I'm in love with Fitzroy Prewett!" Cee confessed to her friend. "I almost gave myself to him!"
She was only now realizing this. Hadn't her aunt caught them, where would their passionate kissing lead them? Even though part of Cee wished that had happened, she was sensible enough to know that it was good it hadn't. She couldn't ruin her family just like that, not when her father had exiled himself for the sake of keeping the family name untarnished.

That hadn't been what Zelda meant to imply, and she choked on her tea at Cee's words. She sputtered, coughed once, and took another sip of tea before actually responding.
"Cecily, you can't," Zelda said. She was sure that Cecily knew that, but after her own decisions - well, sometimes it needed to be pointed out. "Something terrible could happen. But that's not what I meant. What I meant is -" she sighed. She didn't know how to phrase this. It was something that was difficult to wrap her brain around.
"When you love someone, you make space for them to be in your life, even if it's hard. And you make those sacrifices even if it means - giving up pieces of who you are, to make it work. And you know that they would do the same. Does that make sense? I didn't mean - not your body, Cecily," Zelda tacked on nervously. This was a bad conversation to be having.

Understandably, her friend was shocked by Cee's revelation. Cee would have reacted just about the same. She was also a romantic, so she might have asked how it was like and if she was like in the novels. But yes, giving yourself to a man who wasn't your husband wasn't good. It would taint her forever and she could never get married, to anyone who wasn't him, that is. It could also get her pregnant with a child out of wedlock. It would ruin her family. It would bring a bad rep to the Cannons!
(How ironic if Cee and Fitzroy Prewett were to bring shame to the Chuddley Cannons, given their special bond with the team.)
"I didn't give him my body, of course!" Cecily said sheepishly. "Well, not entirely. We kissed, so I suppose I gave him a quarter of myself?" Even though what she was saying was dire, by Victorian standards, she couldn't help the smile on her face, the sort of smile one would have after an accomplishment.

Zelda could feel the start of a headache coming on. Was this what Ari felt like all the time?
"I mean, that's not - nearly as bad," Zelda said. Was she being hypocritical? She didn't think that she was being hypocritical. She was actually courting Alfred, now - and the time they slept together, it had been - well. It hadn't been planned, and besides, Zelda had a feeling that Cecily was more sheltered than she was. Maybe it was because Zelda had too many siblings.
There was something about Fitzroy Prewett that didn't apply to Alfred, now that Zelda was thinking about it.
"I hate to say this, but - he is sort of a flirt, isn't he?"

Fitzroy Prewett did have the reputation of a flirt and Cee knew that very well. And if it hadn't been for their passionate exchange at the museum, she probably would have never considered him as something serious. As someone she could fall in love with.
Was she even in love with Fitzroy Prewett? Cee thought she was but the reality was that she was just a somewhat sheltered girl, brought up at a time period when girls her age weren't supposed to even be touched by men who weren't their husbands outside of dancing. It was understandable, then, that the one man who'd caused such a Chernobyl disaster of an endorphin and oxytocin rush to her, would be the one she'd fancy herself in love with.
The brain was a useful instrument but it could also be terribly deceiving. Ever since that fateful day at the museum, Cecily Gallivan's brain had started sabotaging her with a string of confirmation biases. It kept finding proof that she and Fitzroy Prewett were meant for each other. They both loved Quidditch. He used to play Quidditch for the Chuddley Cannons, Cecily's other love in this life. They had undeniably great sexual chemistry. She had even taken a Witch Weekly quiz as to which Prewett brother she was most compatible with. Her initial answers had pointed to Fitzroy, Felix and Frederick, but then Cecily had taken a better look at the questions and of course, the Ds seemed as more suitable answers for her, so there, even that Witch Weekly quiz said they were compatible. Cee didn't even believe in astrology, but she read in another article that he was a Pisces and she knew she was a Virgo and, upon looking it up, it appeared that their star signs were also terribly compatible.
As for him being a rake... Zelda did have a point, but... Like many naive girls who'd fallen for their first fuckboy, Cee thought she could fix him. She could tame the bad boy.
"Well, yes, but... So was Mr. Reuben Crouch and he is happily married now!" Cee offered. "And — Mr. Pettigrew and Mr. William Abbott too!"

"Yeah," Zelda said, because all of those men were married now, and maybe Fitzroy Prewett would fall in love with Cee too.
Zelda was experiencing one of the universal plights of women: trying not to be too rude to your friend about their fuckboy boyfriend.
One would think that with Alfred as her partner, she'd have a little more experience here - the difference was that Alfred wasn't a flirt, he was actually very awkward, and so Zelda had no experience with being infatuated with men who were flirts. Men who had no money and therefor upset her father, sure. Men who were flirts? Couldn't help you.
"Are you going to try to see him again?"

"We do run in the same circles, so I suppose it's bound to happen," Cee replied, biting her lower lip thoughtfully. "And he might call on me one of these days!"
Fitzroy Prewett was a family friend, so it wouldn't have to be this grand romantic gesture either. She'd had him over last spring, so she could complain about one of his referees. Perhaps she could arrange for such a meeting again?
"Do you think I should write to him?" Cee asked, but then quickly said: "Or no... Maybe I should be coy and let him chase, like Witch Weekly says! What do you think?"
Cee had never read Witch Weekly so thoroughly in her life before.

Zelda bit her lip, thinking. If Fitzroy Prewett was a rake, it was better for Cecily to wait - because he probably would forget to reach out. And if he did reach out, then maybe she was right, and he was reformed.
"I think you should let him chase," she said, "That way you won't seem - desperate for his attention, or anything. He'll have to be desperate for your attention."

"Yes, you are right," Cee said with a nod.
She couldn't wait to see Mr. Prewett again, but she didn't want to seem desperate. Even if she was itching to interact with him again. She had expected some kind of letter from him after everything that happened at the museum — to ask whether she'd dealt with her aunt.
Maybe he was waiting for her to write him?
No, Zelda was right.
"Besides, I don't need Mr. Prewett!" Cee continued, trying to convince herself more than anyone. "If we were to marry, he would take my dowry, whereas if I never married anyone I could convince Theo to give it to me so I could use it to sponsor the Holyhead Harpies... Or something."
As much as she had enjoyed kissing Mr. Prewett and while she was a person guided by romance and passion, she was aware that most husbands wouldn't allow her to be so much into Quidditch. She wanted children, but she didn't want to sacrifice Quidditch in order to become a housewife.

"I think you'd be a very good Holyhead Harpies sponsor," Zelda said, because it was both true and the diplomatic thing to say. No one loved Quidditch like Cecily Gallivan loved Quidditch; Zelda had been a Quidditch commentator at Hogwarts and her own level of interest still paled in comparison to Cee's. "If you don't end up with Mr. Prewett, of course," she added almost as an afterthought.

She and Fitzroy Prewett would be the perfect Quidditch power couple, Cee thought. She couldn't be a sponsor if she was his wife, though. Come think of it, would be scandalous if Fitzroy Prewett married the sister of the sponsor of the Chuddley Cannons. People would always accuse him of nepotism.
"Thank you, Zelda," Cee said with a grin. "And if I'm the sponsor you will be invited to my private box and we could have a girls only party."
They'd talked about her enough, Cee leaned towards her friend and asked: "Now, you must tell me your news!"

"My only news is I think I may have too many brothers," Zelda said, with a theatrical roll of her eyes, because it wasn't as if she could tell Cecily about her Christmas with Alfred. She still hadn't forgiven Nemo for being such a twat at that party, so this was still relevant, she thought.

Cee nose laughed. "Why, is one of them getting married again?" Even though she remembered each of them by name, she didn't remember the relationship status of them all.
