Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Beat 'Em Up [IC Gryffindor Tryouts 1895]

Friday 12th September, evening — Hogwarts quidditch pitch
Not that Jimmy would admit it, but it was probably a good thing Greta had remembered to book the pitch for this. He would take the credit for it, anyway – he also thought he might be a good luck charm for Gryffindor, because they’d won the quidditch cup again last year. Two years in a row of winning was nothing to sniff at.

And only one beater spot to fill. Ha. This should be straightforward enough. “The current team are all here,” Jimmy said with a grin, looking from the present members assembled to the beater-hopefuls, “because we’re going to be your targets today. We’ll be on our brooms, practising our dodging – and you’ll be aiming at us.”

He’d let loose a large array of colourful practice bludgers which were already circling, and would explode on impact and splatter any hits with a particular colour of paint. “I’ll assign you a colour, and you’ll track those. At the end of the tryout, I’ll add a point to your score for every hit in your colour on one of us, and minus one for every hit on you. Are you ready?” Once he had given all the potential beaters a colour to aim for, he gave the signal to his teammates and kicked up into the air on his own broom. “Let’s go!”

Pip was abuzz with excitement. This was going to be his year! He kicked off and zoomed through the air. Except he had a bit of a mishap and the practice bludger he had been aiming at one of the older students ended up exploding a little too close to him, getting him right in the eyes. He was blind! He crashed into someone (Oakshaft Bell, if you must know) who helped him land and clear the paint from his eyes. Oh, he wasn't blind, he could still see! But his turn at tryouts was very much over and he had obviously only managed to hit himself.
Pip is meant to be an auto-fail tehe <3

Charlie was excited to be trying out for quidditch. He hadn't tried out last year to give himself a solid year in Club Quidditch – and Flying Club, for good measure – to prepare. He felt prepared, as he and Uncle Anthony had spent a lot of the summer practicing, plus they’d gone to the supply store before school started so he could pick out a new broom to be used; it didn’t matter if he made the team or not.

Charlie set about his beater tryout, kicking off into the air after Fletcher assigned him his color. He was determined to make the team.
