Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1895. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.

Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
August 20, 1895 — an event at a townhouse in London
Another evening, another social invitation. Jin knew he should be grateful for the patronage he and his brothers were receiving; it was all the luck of the draw and their endless efforts to appear perfect that kept British society from turning their backs and snubbing them as they’d been warned it could. So far, one might think this little experiment of Abeoji’s successful. Jin was still unsure if he was ready to hold his breath over it.
Tucked in tightly to a freshly pressed jacket, the half-vampire walked along the outside perimeter of this evening’s dance floor. He was looking for a somewhat strange, blonde-haired debutant that he’d spoken to earlier in the evening and signed his name to for a dance. It had been about two songs since then and so he figured they were fast approaching his turn. He wasn’t looking forward to the exchange particularly. He’d observed her to be one of those who stepped on toes and moved without rhythm— it wasn’t the ideal partner for someone who was yet unfamiliar with the intricacies of British dancing.
He’d just spotted her across the room, bellowing a laugh so loudly he could hear it from here, when all of a sudden someone tripped into him by accident. Jin immediately turned, hands outstretched to catch whomever - or whatever - had collapsed against him. “Mianhabnida!” The soft expression of apology slipped forward in Joseoneo before he could catch it.

Another day, another ball, as was to be expected. Such was the life of a debutante, and while Edelweiss had mentally prepared herself for the constant schedule of paying visits and taking calls, there was still a bit of a learning curve to it all. Be introduced, make small talk — oh, and try not to be overwhelmed by the triggering of her sensory abilities when applicable; which happened when she was around most people, of course.
Dear Merlin.
It was enough to make her head spin some nights. She hadn’t expected this kind of side effect. It shouldn’t have been any worse than being at school - she had been able to tolerate being around so many students and their disruptive auras, so why would being in Society be any different? Ada had been trying to contemplate why this would be when she suddenly realized she was about to walk into someone right in front of her. A quick sidestep prevented that social faux-pas from happening, however she immediately walked into someone else. A gasp left her as she stumbled before two hands shot out to steady her, a foreign tongue reaching her ears as it happened.
For all the effect that this voice had on Ada, it might not have mattered if it was in English or some other language she could understand. All that mattered was the air around her suddenly seemed to vibrate, pulling her towards this person who had just steadied her. “I-I’m so sorry,” She stammered, looking up at the person in front of her, eyes wide as she took them in.
Too late Jin realized that he hadn’t spoke in English but it didn’t seem to matter as a pretty redhead fell into his arms. He looked at her and she looked at him. From what he could tell, he hadn’t met this one yet but it would be the name that decided it. Clearing his throat and taking a gentle step back once he was sure she was alright, Jin inclined his head in polite greeting.
“Please,” he said in English this time. “Don’t apologize. It was my fault.” He’d been looking around with his head anywhere but forward, searching for the one he didn’t want to find. Jin gave the girl a small smile. She looked young. Would it be considered too forward if he introduced himself? He went ahead and did it anyway. He was here to meet people and place stations, wasn’t he?
“I don’t believe we’ve met,” Jin continued, lacing one hand behind his back. “My name is Seojin Jeong.” He gave her a quick bow, nothing like the sweeping devastation from home, but polite enough for English society.

What was happening? The air seemed to have taken on a dreamy quality, shimmering slightly as she found her footing and parted from the man who had come to her rescue. For someone like Edelweiss who always seemed to be overstimulated by the sounds and smells and colors swirling all around her, it was difficult for her to focus sometimes, especially at parties. But everything about this man’s countenance seemed to have her locked in on him and him alone.
It was a peculiar feeling, one that slightly set Edelweiss on edge as she observed him sketching a polite bow.
“Edelweiss Prewett,” She replied, dipping a curtsey in return. “Thank you, in any case, for helping me avoid a disaster.”
The girl looked at him with a confused countenance and Jin immediately wondered if he’d done wrong. English formalities were still new to him and he wasn’t always sure when it was appropriate to introduce himself versus waiting to be introduced. The girl was polite though, as she bobbled into a small curtesy and returned his introduction.
Edelweiss Prewett. Jin recognized that surname, even if he figured it would take a lot of practice to say her given name. (He didn’t try.) Abeoji had made a point to introduce him to her father—Faustus? If he was remembering correctly. Jin offered the girl a sheepish grin. He supposed he ought to try and make a good impression.
“It’s really nothing,” he repeated, inclining his head in a small bow of politeness. “I suppose this will serve as a lesson to look where I’m going from now on.” He offered her a soft grin. This was the point at which they’d excuse themselves and go their separate ways: a quick interlude in an otherwise distracted night. But Jin figured Abeoji would want him to get to know Prewett-ssi more than he’d care if Jin skipped a dance with that ridiculously rude debutant he couldn’t even name. (Right?) He made a play for it anyway. Anything to save his toes and himself from the embarrassment.
“Are you… having a good evening so far?” He hedged gently.
