Did You Know?
One of the cheapest homeless shelters in Victorian London charged four pennies to sleep in a coffin. Which was... still better than sleeping upright against a rope? — Jordan / Lynn
If he was being completely honest, the situation didn't look good, but Sylvano was not in the habit of being completely honest about anything. No reason to start now.

Constance Sykes vs. Timoleon Maxime
#1
April 27th, 1894 — Hogsmeade Memorial Assembly Rooms
Dueling Competition
Cash hadn't wanted to moderate the dueling competition, but he supposed that technically it was part of his job as an employee at MG&S. And it was certainly better than some of the other tasks he could have gotten involved with today.

He remembered Sykes from Hogwarts, so that was also odd. Since he knew her, Cash announced, "Miss Sykes will begin."

Why did she do this to herself? Last time she had ended up with her eye and her ego bruised and yet here she was again. Ah well, it kept her young though thankfully not twelve fucking years old again.

Inclining her head politely Connie cast a confundus charm and cursed whoever had drawn her against her opponent.

Well, it would be a bit embarrassing if he lost a duel to a woman, but that wasn't going to happen. Leo nodded in turn as he watched her get into position to cast her first spell.

Oozing confidence (more so than he had any right to), Leo cast, "Speculo," to reflect the spell back at his opponent. They certainly didn't teach useful spells like that at Hogwarts.

Oof, that one looked as if it had sent Mr. Maxime reeling — the man was visibly confused. Cash cast a quick spell with a muttered word to remove — (hopefully all of, but he could not be sure) — the effects before announcing the next round.

"Point to Miss Sykes. Mr. Maxime, when you're ready," Cash said.

Leo was positively annoyed to be bested by a woman; damnit, didn't they know they were better left to feminine things, which certainly didn't include dueling. Shaking his head to rid himself of the headache that was starting to form, Leo lifted his wand to cast the jelly-fingers curse; she couldn't cast a counter if she couldn't hold a wand.

Well, that was a turn up. Connie hadn't had much expectation so the surprise was a pleasant one - for now, at least. Flicking her wand she cast a full-body bind.

Mr. Maxime's jinx struck, but Miss Sykes was still able to fire a spell at him — he went rigid and dropped. Her fingers may have been jellylike, but it certainly hadn't stopped her from hitting him. Cash fixed both of the duelists and said, "The duel goes to Miss Sykes. Mr. Maxime, thank you for your participation."
