Jin resolved to do what he could for Ki-Se as he studied the little one and noted his hesitation. It didn’t matter at the end of the day what Abeoji did or said because there would always be something that set him off. But this? His first impression and (probably) a lasting one— would not be so easy to change if they got off on the wrong foot. And if Jin had learned anything in his time since the Menagerie had grown it was that they only had one another when Abeoji was on the opposing team.
He smiled softly and made to stand as Ki-Se gave a nod that reminded Jin of a wounded tiger cub. But before he could get far in his efforts to retrieve the over coat, Ki-Se was starting to strip his clothing. “Ani, ani!” Jin whisper-yelled quickly, reaching for him from a distance. “Give me one minute! I’ll be right back.” And with that, bolstered by Ki-Se’s eagerness, Jin slipped back out and fetched the drumagi. (He also grabbed a clean white under layer and a hair pin as he went.)
When he returned, Jin closed the door to the dark little hanok behind him and took a deep breath. If he was going to do this, he was going to do it correctly. He hadn’t lost his wand on the short trip (luckily) and so he strode towards the lock on the cage and tried his hand at unfastening it. It took a few tries but eventually the door creaked open. Jin set the small pile of clothes on the floor, minus the hair pin, and settled on his knees some small distance from Ki-Se. He would let his brother come to him if he wanted, but if not, the clothes were there so he could change. Assuming he didn’t need assistance. “Yeogiyo,” he said softly.
