In the end, Jin wasn’t sure who won the race to mount and get off the ground first but he was thrilled to be back on a broomstick. It really was akin to relinquishing all his doubts, and concerns, and darkness, and just letting himself bask in the freedom of one single moment and then another. But the giddiness and addiction of freedom could only stand against his hatred of the cold for so long. By the time Moon-ssi decided it was too cold to continue, Jin was sure he’d lost a few fingers and toes to the frost spirit and that he’d never stop shivering again. His feet wobbled as he landed back on the ground and Jin had to catch himself before he toppled into an even colder heap.
By now a thin coating of snow had covered the majority of the grounds. The grass still poked through but it was enough to leave footprints in their wake as they returned their supplies and trudged back towards the palace. Jin had practically adhered himself to the inside of Moon-ssi’s scarf and he was only slightly ashamed to admit that it was damp and snotty now. Most of him was damp though and he half wondered if a warm shower was in the cards before Myonghwa…
Snorting at Moon-ssi’s comment about joining the quidditch team, Jin leveled his friend a look that implied he was delirious. There was no part of Jin that wanted to be on the team and be forced into the rigorous practices and team bonding and whatever else Moon-ssi was always subject to. He wasn’t nearly interested enough, even if his talents were… passable. As for that bit about going easy, Jin huffed and responded without even thinking about it. “Dangyeonhee ahneeji. If I stop focusing for even a minute on my flying, then I get distracted by thoughts of you.” And then where would they be? With him in the chaotic seas below and Moon-ssi laughing his ass off. Jin thought not, thank you very much.
By the time his brain caught up with what he’d just said, Jin pulled up short. Ssi-bal! Had he just admitted that out loud? (His suddenly pink cheeks seemed to answer the question for him, not that it warmed Jin up even the slightest bit at all.)
