The girl looked at him with a confused countenance and Jin immediately wondered if he’d done wrong. English formalities were still new to him and he wasn’t always sure when it was appropriate to introduce himself versus waiting to be introduced. The girl was polite though, as she bobbled into a small curtesy and returned his introduction.
Edelweiss Prewett. Jin recognized that surname, even if he figured it would take a lot of practice to say her given name. (He didn’t try.) Abeoji had made a point to introduce him to her father—Faustus? If he was remembering correctly. Jin offered the girl a sheepish grin. He supposed he ought to try and make a good impression.
“It’s really nothing,” he repeated, inclining his head in a small bow of politeness. “I suppose this will serve as a lesson to look where I’m going from now on.” He offered her a soft grin. This was the point at which they’d excuse themselves and go their separate ways: a quick interlude in an otherwise distracted night. But Jin figured Abeoji would want him to get to know Prewett-ssi more than he’d care if Jin skipped a dance with that ridiculously rude debutant he couldn’t even name. (Right?) He made a play for it anyway. Anything to save his toes and himself from the embarrassment.
“Are you… having a good evening so far?” He hedged gently.
