1st September, 1895 — The Entrance Hall, after the Welcome Feast
Dinner was over, and the Sorting long complete – the first years had been led off to their new dormitories like lines of little lost ducklings, but now that they had been dismissed the rest of the school was going up to bed in a more rambling manner, crushes of people on the staircases and others lingering about to catch up with classmates they hadn’t seen in a while.
Jimmy had one hand on the grand staircase, ready to make the long trek up to Gryffindor, but was distracted by someone who’d just looked at him hissing behind his back to the next person, something like How is Jimmy Fletcher back for NEWTs?
He turned on his heel on the first step, holding up the flow of people here purely to flash a toothy grin at them. “They begged me to stay on. Said the professors would miss me too much if I were gone.”
