Anne's snort bounced off the bookshelves around them. "Yes, it's a mandrake leaf that would ruin his reputation. How dare you suggest such a thing?" Anne managed to look offended for all of a second before her shark-like smile returned. Her humor dimmed slightly when Millie mentioned seventh year.
Anne had no doubts about finishing out her Hogwarts career. OWLs didn't scare her so much as annoy her at their all-consuming nature. Millie was in a very different situation. She couldn't wrap her head around someone as clever as Millie having to plan for life after Hogwarts, should her scores fall short. It wasn't a thing Anne was ready to tolerate.
Trying to return to the lighter fun, as she saw it, Anne quipped, "You think I'd invest the time to get Os in history or Muggle Studies? I have a life, Mills." Anne knew she'd need more Os than Es on her OWLs to hold her scholarship, but they'd been studying for five years. As far as Anne was concerned, you either knew the subject or you didn't. While Anne believed this, she also believed that repetition of the material would calm Millie down. With a performative sigh, Anne turned her attention back to her notes. "Fine, we can work, you killjoy." There wasn't any heat to her teasing, Anne's eyes mischievous, but determined. Millie would get through this, even if Anne had to drag her.
