Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

The Frankenflora Project;; [NEWT Herbology]
#1
September 2nd, 1895 — Greenhouse #3, Hogwarts
With the introductory classes out of the way, Rory was rather excited to focus on his NEWT students. He’d spent a lot of time thinking over what they might find interesting as well as what, at this stage in their academic careers, might be the most beneficial. He’d poured over the previous curriculum notes, or what he could find of them in the aftermath, and eventually had settled on a hybridization. Now, with greenhouse #3 neatly tidied and ready for the impending arrivals, he was feeling rather more confident that he’d made the right choice.

Nodding once again to the students who greeted him, Rory waited by the front of the greenhouse and watched as they settled into their respective places. Once a quorum had amassed, he made to introduce himself. “Good afternoon, my name is Professor Carrow.

To kick off our introductions, we shall begin with a term-long initiative that will both help me understand where each of you are in your respective Herbological journeys, as well as improve your own personal understanding.”
He grinned at them and pointed to a row of medium to large-sized terracotta pots all lined up along the back glass of the greenhouse. Inside, there were a variety of different types of magical plants, most ether adolescent or fully grown.

“Along the windowsill behind you there are a number of different species you may select for this assignment. The intention is to hybridize one of these plants such that, by the end of term, you have engineered a new beneficial trait. Examples include petals that glow or exploding seeds that plant themselves when watered.

It will be important to consider all of your herbological training up until this point and apply it to this assignment.”
Rory’s expression twinkled a bit in excitement. “As for the logistics, greenhouse #3 will be dedicated solely for this purpose the remainder of this term. You may come and go as you please to tend to your assignments. I shall be here to provide assistance, oversight and to maintain attendance records at each of our regularly scheduled classes. Sometimes we may pause for a lecture that seems particularly beneficial to the group, and other times there may be a written assignment given out. It would be in everyone’s best interest to attend.” Rory felt his face go rather serious and stern so he shook it off and laced his hands behind his back.

“If there are no questions, you may select your starter and begin.”

NOTE: This will be a two-part lesson; this thread introduces the assignment and will remain open until November. Part two will be each of the students presenting their final hybrids to the class, thread to be posted Nov/Dec. 20 Extra HPs to any student who completes a thread this term that has them working on the assignment (even if just in the bg) if you share it with me! (10+ posts, 3+ your own, etc.)
