Mason, Quin, and Percy had grown up together as soon as their school years had started. They’d all been hufflepuffs in the same dorm and as such had formed a close friendship. In the years after school they’d all gone their own ways but they had still been close. Mason had seen Percy through the aftermath of Maggie. He’d watched as Percy had taken a job and worked for the girl he wanted. Only to be turned down. It seemed unfathomable that Mason was no longer there. It was just Quin and him now. No Mason to talk them down (or up in Percy’s case) from whatever trouble they’d gotten themselves into. Since Percy had been eleven Mason had been a steady current in his life. And now that had stopped.
He’d sent a letter to Mason’s mother and Percy’s former boss expressing his deepest condolences the day he had heard the news. And now here he sat looking at the blank parchment in front of him. He supposed he ought to feel outraged or shocked at the scandal, but indeed, the only thing Percy could bring himself to feel was the deep outrage at everyone’s reaction to Mrs. Skeeter.
Morwenna was still a woman, a well respected woman. Her decades long career ought to have shown that. But instead it was doing the very opposite. Percy hated it. Couldn’t a mother be left to grieve her son?
And so he wrote.
It was short, to the point, and the only thing he wished to burden the woman with. She didn’t need politeness, she needed to know someone was in her corner.
