Pip had not been allowed to bring his own room so he had to make do with one of the school brooms. Besides, his broom was a baby broom anyway. One that had been designed specifically for children. He listened dutifully as the Coach spoke. He put his hand out of his broom and issued the up command. Nothing happened. He tried again and this time the broom at least wiggled.

Pip issued the command again, this time with more force. The broom rose up rapidly and hit him square in the face, causing a mild nosebleed.
