Malcorvus Flint vs. Endymion Dempsey

July 24th, 1892 — Headquarters of the London Society for the Practice of Combative Magic

Well this was an improvement on yesterday! He'd gone from incompetent children to expert duelists - or at least people who believed they were experts. The truth remained to be seen. He gave them a quick summary of the rules and then got on with it. When you're ready you may begin. This he directed to Malcorvus Flint.

Malcorvus had no need to listen to the rules of Dueling, it wasn't like this was his first time. Then again he didn't duel for fun all that often, in the past it had been either training or to gain satisfaction for an offense done to him. Needless to say he survived those duels but he made sure he would. It took just as much strategic planning to win a duel as it did skill and he wasn't about to allow himself to be eliminated in his first match, regardless of who he was paired against.

Before being called for his first duel Malcorvus took a moment to limber up, a few stretches wouldn't hurt. When he was ready the stepped up onto the dueling floor and bowed deeply and formally towards Endymion. He didn't know much about the younger wizard so carefully sized him up till the official signaled they were to begin.

Malcorvus stood with a proper stance, wand arm ready to cast or deflect and his free arm held loosely to one side, out of the way. He gazed at Dempsey with a steely eyed gaze, focused and penetrating like a raptor's. Then with a speed one may not expect from a wizard his age, Malcorvus cast his first spell, a fiery lash of light and hissing noise designed more to frighten than do actual harm. If it struck true, it acted like a lasso, capable of entangling legs or snaring up a wand arm.

Endymion Dempsey

ooc: wanted to describe a bit what the spell could do, but not any indication it succeeds. I can remove it if it's not appropriate.

If his opponent was sizing him up, Endymion hadn't noticed; his own gaze was meandering mindlessly about the room, twirling his wand in hand with relaxed wrist motions. Not that the other fellow wasn't imposing – he was perhaps the most restrained, formal looking man Dymion had ever seen – but needless worry had never done him any good.

So there was an incoming lash of light and a matter of seconds before the hot snaking light made contact; hoping for the best, Endymion threw out a knot-tying charm, hoping to twist up the light instead into a useless (but very neat) bow before it reached him.

Alas, Dempsey was too slow. Charles watched on with mild interest as the wizard was successfully immobilized by the flashy tendril summoned by Flint. That's round one to Mr. Flint. Mr. Dempsey, please begin the next round.

The old fellow had been faster than he'd thought! Placidly, Endymion stood in the snare of light until he was freed of it, wondering what he might try this round. He settled on a Babbling Curse, hoping that would be enough to derail Flint's next spell.

Inwardly Malcorvus was pleased his fiery tendril spell successfully entangled his opponents, outwardly he remained calm and focused. He remained in a relaxed pose while Macmillan reversed his charm and signaled the beginning of the next round.

He assumed a duelist's pose at the start of the second around, hawk-like gaze fixed on Mr. Dempsey as he waited for the younger wizard to make his move. Malcorvus already knew what his next move would be and hoped he was fast enough to complete the spell before his opponent.

With a sharp snap of his wrist Malcorvus cast a concussive blast meant to knock his opponent off his feet hopefully before Dempsey could complete his spell.

Charles watched Flint's spell hurtle towards its target and knew before it even hit its mark what the outcome of the duel would be. He was thusly unsurprised when Dempsey's spell was redirected towards the ceiling as its caster was literally swept off his feet. A decisive victory for Mr. Flint!
