June 15, 1884 — Mahoutokoro grounds, Japan (15 yrs, 5th year)
Jin’s expression was stormy as he sat behind Moon-ssi in Sigilcraft. In front of him, in Jin’s usual spot beside Moon-ssi mind you, was Dae Min-Jee— a girl from Joseon, ani—Hanseon actually, right near where Moon-ssi’s family lived. She also came from a good background; her Abeoji worked in the palace too, though Jin didn’t know (or care) in what position. Min-Jee was everything he wasn’t: she was bubbly, outgoing, confident and she knew all the rules to quidditch. Oh, and she was at every single game. Likely the one this afternoon too. She was… fine, he guessed. Not exactly friendly (far from it in fact) but at least in front of Moon-ssi she seemed to…try. Or maybe Jin was just kidding himself as he tried to be supportive of his friend. Whatever the case— Dae Min-Jee had colored their previously black and white little circle and tainted it an ugly yellow. Frankly it probably looked like mud now. Or poop. Immaturities aside, something had definitely shifted when Moon-ssi met Dae Min-Jee and Jin still wasn’t sure he liked it. It had happened so quickly that he wasn’t even sure when their dynamic had changed. It felt like she was everywhere now though. At breakfast, at lunch, at diner, at practice, in the library, in the hot spring— ssi-bal, the hot spring was the worst of it! The only place she didn’t follow Moon-ssi was into the showers and Jin was pretty sure she’d try if Seonsaengnim let her! He scowled down at his wiggly assignment and the frustrated blotch that had fallen from his brush onto the rectangle he was supposed to be enchanting. There was no way Jin’s domicile protection charm was going to work now.
In front of him, Min-Jee looked over her shoulder and gave him a funny look as she noticed his work. Moon-ssi shifted in his seat however and instantly her attention was drawn back to him, huddled into his side like a cat. ANI! Not a cat, a toad. A wrinkly, old, smelly toad on its way into a cauldron! Class could not end fast enough. The moment it did, Jin packed his things and hightailed it out of the room before Moon-ssi or his stupid cronie could even blink.
Outside, the temperate air of spring was beginning to shift into summer. Jin hated the summer; it was too hot and too sunny and he’d burn to a crisp if he wasn’t careful. Right now though, he’d rather be anywhere other than inside that stuffy classroom. The majority of students were making their way past him down to the quidditch pitch. There was a match today and Jin knew Moon-ssi was playing. His feet angled him in the opposite direction. Maybe he’d skip just this one and finish his homework in the library.

* Jin takes potions and enchantments at times to give his voice a persuasive quality.
His performances, or even a simple conversation, can sometimes suggest thoughts
and ideas to his audiences.
