Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Being at an age where he was not yet branded a bachelor, Aristide tended to pick and choose which events he went to. Unless Adrienne requested he go to one, that is. But he had decided to accept the invitation to this coming out. Not because he knew the girl (he did not) or anything but simply because she was French. He missed France sometimes, even now and while he could technically jet off and visit it, it would not feel right to do so without his twin. Who was a mother now so could hardly traipse off because her twin sometimes got homesick.

There was French violin music playing which made him feel at ease. He took a moment to admire some of the flowers, taking in their scent. They were lovely. Hopefully the rest of the evening would continue to fall into the same lovely vein.

François moved through the very French party in his very French suit chatting to people, to faces he may know, to face he assumed the DeCroixs new. He did have a mind to look at for handsome young men in their early twenties. Given the rumours had now subsided he doubted the man in question would actually decide to show up, but Dupont had no idea what he looked like, there was always that nagging doubt.

As he nursed his wine he spotted a man who might fit the bill, but mostly he looked without company. "Bonjour, lovely evening to you. Have you had a dance yet?" he asked in his very French accent to the younger man.

Aristide smiled charmingly as an older man with the accent of home spoke to him. His own French accent had grown perhaps a little lighter over the years but it was still pretty present since he and his twin spoke French together regularly. "A lovely evening to you as well. I have not had the chance," he answered when the other asked if he had danced yet. He was not personally an eligible bachelor yet so he did not have to make grand efforts to secure himself dances on ladys dance cards. Not that the young ladies were usually adverse but Aristide tended not to pay such things much mind. "Are you acquainted with our hosts?"

Another Frenchman, perfect, not the rumoured paramour of Miss DeCroix but it was always nice to see another homelander this side of La Manche. He nodded brightly, "Oui, Oui, you might say that. I am soon to be engaged to the lady of the hour." he laughed and glanced at the beautiful blonde who currently danced with a chap he knew to be a friend of his own father's.

"May I suggest you offer my sister, Manon, a dance at some oppurtunity. She would be quite the delight to a man such as yourself and has an open card." he gestured to a brunette girl with her hair up in tight buns, she was the same age as Violetta and a dance card hung from her arm.

"Ah, I see! Congratulations," Aristide said. The other knew the family well indeed, then. All he knew of the blonde was that she had been pulled out of Hogwarts early to prepare for her debut. Not much else though nor did he really care to learn anything more deeply.

"I shall be sure to do so," Aristide said with a smile. "Has she also debuted early or taking advantage of being a family friend to attend before she has?" Not that it overly mattered either way, it was a simple curiosity. After all, the Selwyn women had typically finished their magical schooling fully but he understood standards were different for other families.

He beamed to the congratulations, he was very happy and quite enjoying the attention that his arrangement with the lady of the hour would garner him. He nodded at the question about his sister. "Oui. She 'as left Beauxbatons this summer and but 'er betrothed 'as been rendered incapable of performing 'is duty." a terrible shame, but the dreadful illness that took him meant the only honorable thing to do was for him to request consent to rescind the betrothal. Leaving Manon out, but unattached.

"Do you see 'ome much?" he asked politely.
