And Then It All Went Wrong

A sigh, an upward glance, that was more Evander. Enough to make Caroline's uneasy feeling lessen. She had learned throughout their marriage that he wasn't the most affectionate man, instead she had learned to cherish each gesture of his like some trying to bottle a fleeting scent in a bottle. So when Evander turned to her, his warm hands framing her face, and gave her a light kiss, she didn't question it. Instead she savored it, letting her eyelids flutter shut and a small smile slide across her lips at his words.

All too soon he had stepped away, such tender moments couldn't last forever, no matter how much Caroline might wish they did. It was a different sort of tender, the recommendation of the floo powder instead. Evander never did think that apperation in her state was wise, so she nodded and stepped ahead of him. The flames turned emerald green from the powder and she stepped through, willing herself not to puke as she stumbled into the parlor of the tea room, moving aside to wait for Evander.

Step one was finally complete. With them now in Hogsmeade, Delilah had to figure out what to do to accomplish step two: ditch the poor woman. Stepping through the fireplace after her, she moved to stand next to her. Breakfast. She absolutely needed breakfast and then she needed to find a way to make sure her kids weren’t harmed - she’d go to jail as Evander if meant protecting them. (Oh, one day she was going to have to beg for his forgiveness, but today was not that day.)

Reaching out, Delilah rested her hand briefly against the girl’s shoulders. “What would like you?” She hummed. Breakfast, and then she really did have to leave. Work would have to figure out he wasn’t coming. She briefly wondered what he did - she’d asked the woman, in a bit. Conversation over breakfast? Delilah moved her feet toward one of the shops that was open. She was starving. “Or, more importantly, what’s your favorite breakfast food?”

She held the door open for her before she followed in after her. Delilah was considering taking her breakfast to-go.

The gentle touches were so infrequent with Evander that Caroline noticed each one however small. She could get use to this. She wondered if perhaps it was the baby that brought it on - this tenderness that she hadn't seen often from him.

But what did she want? Caroline's thoughts wandered, "A scone, I think. " She settled on. Just Evander asked her her favorite breakfast food. She laughed. "Have you already forgotten? Crepes." She'd discovered them during their trip to Paris on their honeymoon and had asked their cook to learn how to make them. Likely part of her loved them all the more because they were the first breakfast that she and Evander had had together. Or maybe it was simply because of the appetite she had worked up with him the night before. Whatever the reason she had declared that first morning of their marriage that crepes were her favorite thing for breakfast - if not her favorite food altogether.

A scone! Perfect. Delilah stepped forward to the counter and ordered two plain scones. “Of course I haven’t forgotten.” She replied over her shoulder; a good husband would know, and given how smitten Mrs. Darrow was with Evander, she could only assume that he was one. (Hopefully he’d come home and clear up this whole confusion.)

She turned around and offered one of the scones to her. “I think I should go to work after this.” Delilah winced. The more she ventured from home, the more she worried for her own kids. She needed to be back in her body.

"Just testing me then?" Caroline asked, trying again to brush off this new side of Evander, a small smile between confusion and teasing tilted her lips.

It only took a moment until Evander was handing her a scone. It was still warm and smelled amazing. Caroline inhaled the scent with a happy smile. A happy smile which faultered at Evander's words. "Oh. Of course." She pulled a smile on her lips. Evander was, after all, a very important man. "I'm sure the ministry would miss you if you did not." She added with a lighthearted voice even though she had hoped to spend more time with him - however, weird his behavior.

Delilah tried not to smile as she glanced at her fake wife; the woman was certainly smitten with her husband and kept hoping she wasn’t going to botch this up. The less time she was around the better it would be for everyone. “Just have to make sure you haven’t changed your mind, is all.” She replied.

Then she scrunched her nose up before she leaned down to press a chaste kiss against the woman’s cheek - not the lips because that would be too weird for her. “I’ll see you later, after work.” Maybe she could try again, take her out to dinner or something if she wasn’t back in her body by then. She’d have to spend the night, and the less weird she was about this situation, the better.

Evander placed a kiss on her cheek giving Caroline time to place an encouraging smile on her face and look as if she had anticipated and encouraged this. "Of course. I'll have cook make your favorite." She told him, capturing his hand for a moment to give it a squeeze.

"Have a good day at work." Caroline added with a smile.
