Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Other Details

Description of Location: The gaslight casts a warm glow on the smoky music hall. The scent of stale beer, pipe tobacco, and something vaguely floral from the ladies' perfume hangs in the air.
It's constantly loud – boisterous laughter, chatter, the clinking of glasses, and a raucous piano melody battling with a group of off-key singers.

A brightly lit stage juts out into the room. Its backdrop might be a gaudy painted scene of a castle or a beach, depending on the performance. The floor is cracked and scuffed worn wooden. The area before the stage is full of tables, where patrons mingle with ladies in brightly colored dresses and feathered hats. Beyond the tables, seating is a mix of wooden benches and rickety chairs, some occupied by groups sharing pitchers of ale. Others prefer to stand at the back, or lean on the bar.
