"Who knows. Maybe I will end up married to one of your sisters," Desi teased with a wink. Though, honestly speaking, the eldest Miss Dempsey was kind of terrifying. But even that had its appeal.

  

Endymion couldn’t help but guffaw at that. He might have been worried if he thought Desi was serious – because he wanted only the best for his sisters; because his sisters were very particular young ladies; because, whatever his friend said, Desi still didn’t seem to him much able to commit to marriage properly, and he certainly didn’t know how to express that to his face – but for now the thought was simply too funny not to entertain. Shalott or Lycoris, perhaps, might find him fun and and charming and interesting; Phyri would only have fun tearing him apart. Perhaps with that thought colouring his opinions, Endymion clapped Morgan on the shoulder and replied jokingly, “Well, let’s pray it doesn’t come to that.”

"Want to put a wager on it?" Desi said, only half joking. Not that he knew what they might wager. There was not much either could not afford on their own. Maybe the wager could be some especially embarrassing dare or something.

  

“I’ll take a wager,” Endymion said cheerfully; not because he thought lightly of the marriage subject, but because he didn’t see any harm in doing so. Well, he wouldn’t be betting Desi married any of his sisters – but in terms of who married first... “Second to marry has to give a speech at the first wedding?” He proposed, with a grin. It was that or paying for the honeymoon. “And I’ll stake my life you won’t marry my sister.”

"That sure, huh?" Desi asked in amusement as Endy staked his life. What would he do if Desi really did manage to woo one of the Dempsey sisters? Desi felt that a terribly unlikely scenario though. Even so, he was likely to marry first he felt. He was more established and not as particular as he felt that his friend was. "Given your family, I expect your speech to be poetic and excellent."
