December 23, 1895 — Diagon Alley, Quality Quidditch Supplies
Jin had slipped out rather early that morning against all better judgement. He hadn’t told Abeoji where he’d gone, obviously, but neither had he told any of his brothers who would be bound to catch him in a lie the moment it slipped his lips. Too bad. It was a necessary evil and he’d take the punishment that was dealt if he got caught. He’d decided, late last night, on exactly the perfect gift for Ahn-Bo-ah this holiday. It surprised him frankly that he hadn’t thought of it before, especially after seeing him so thrilled for (and during) the Frost Spirit Race earlier that year. Carrow-ssi had been generous to lend his brother some extra quidditch gear, that much Jin couldn’t begrudge the man. But Ahn-Bo deserved to have his own broom at least, especially after everything he’d been suffering since their arrival to Britain. Even if that meant they had to keep it hidden from Yeom. Jin didn’t like keeping secrets from their father. Somehow they always had a way of coming out and the consequences were always worse than they might have been out of a spiteful need to remind them that they shouldn’t lie to their Abeoji. But again, this was a necessary evil. It was the only thing that made his brother truly happy.
So, before anyone could wake, Jin dressed quickly and slipped out of the house. Diagon Alley was bustling even at this early hour of morning but Quality Quidditch Supplies was still closed when he arrived. For a terrifying moment, Jin was worried they’d be closed all day! But the sign on the door said they’d open around noon, so he decided to grab a quick bite. He also had to finish Eun-Ho’s gift shopping too. Both of those activities brought him to around 1 o’clock, and by the time Jin circled back to Quality Quidditch Supplies, it was open and the newest broom in the display window glittered temptingly.
He paused outside the window to give it a once over. Jin didn’t know much of anything about the latest brooms, especially not here in Britain. Back home he’d only known what he did because of Bo-ah’s eager excitement to share with him. Idly, Jin scratched the back of his head. Ssi-bal. He hoped one of the staff members might be able to help him choose the right one…
