One of the cheapest homeless shelters in Victorian London charged four pennies to sleep in a coffin. Which was... still better than sleeping upright against a rope? — Jordan / Lynn
If he was being completely honest, the situation didn't look good, but Sylvano was not in the habit of being completely honest about anything. No reason to start now.

December 22nd, 1895 - Padmore lakeside
It was a freezing cold winters morning by the partially frozen lake. The ice was too thin to skate, the grass was too frozen to picnic, so it was mostly deserted apart from the two teenagers walking along the promenade side by side. Violetta's chaperone had held back as Vee wanted to discuss feminine matters with an old friend. She was glad Anne had decided to come and wondered if it was a specific line in her letter that had tempted her in.

"...I know our friendship is not what it once was, but i consider you honorable and if our five years together in Slytherin means anything, I need your utter confidence in this matter."

She was nervous to speak it aloud, to make it real. She was terrified of the inevitable fallout, the only thing that didnt scare her right now was the possibly ruinious decision she would following through on this very night. She looked at Anne bashfully, the smartest girl she knew would almost certainly be able to tell something was amiss.

This was a trap. It was the only explanation Anne could think of. A pack of overly rich, pretentious, French thugs was waiting for her in the park. Absolutely the only explanation, but also a wonderful justification for arriving with her hand firmly on her wand. It had nothing to do with the fact that she was now old enough to wield her magic outside of school. Alright, almost nothing.

Anne arrived when asked, her hand firmly on her wand in her pocket. She wouldn't be caught off guard, thank you very much. She stood near the frozen lake, her former dormmate standing before her, looking more like an adult than Anne could be comfortable with. Violet had changed; Anne wasn't ready to say for the better just yet. Violetta was nervous. As much as Anne enjoyed the other girl knowing she was on shaky ground, she had spent five years with her. If Violet was nervous, Anne was nervous.

Cutting to the chase, Anne delivered bluntly, "Alright, Violet, what do you want?"

Violet? The same old Anne, would it kill her to pronounce it right just once. Never mind, that wasn't important and it wasnt why they were out in this cold day. "It is so refreshing to see you Anne. I cant believe its only been six months since our OWLS." the time had flown, and so much had happened in Violetta's life, racing her towards matrimony at such a speed she might loose her hat.

She twisted and gestured with her head that they walk and would chat while she did so. Where to start, she couldn't tell Anne everything, she couldnt tell anyone that, but she needed Anne to know how serious this matter of the heart was.

"I need to ask something of you. And I ask this to you as someone I trust and as someone that cares little of what others might think of them, oui?..." she rolled the words around in her mouth trying to find them. "Because I'm going to need a lot of that strength."

She let out a long sigh and looked across at the castle, how much simpler would her life be if she was simply on her winter break like Anne.

"I'm getting married mon ami... and its not to Monsieur Dupont." she gave a nervous smirk, it was a happy confession, even if it was scandalous. Would Anne even remember the brief rumours that circulated about Violetta after she met Victor in summer of 94, or further rumours of that winter. Would she have cared to listen to such things.

Unimpressed by the pleasantries, Anne didn't bother hiding her scowl as Violet waved off her minders. Anne would keep an eye on them all the same. "You didn't drag me out here to chat about timing flying. You want something, so out with it." Anne griped as they crunched across the icy ground.

Anne's hands were shoved firmly in the pockets of her coat, her stride slowing out of habit to accommodate Violet's shorter stride. Like it or not, Anne had spent five years with the blonde at her side, waking and sleeping. While Anne's horror at the frilly explosion that was Violetta's section of the dormitory was now legend, it was the ways they'd adapted to each other that should be mythical. They couldn't be less alike. In appearance, status, and circumstance, they were opposites. And yet, for years, they had been nearly sisters. Perhaps they were something of a tragedy, but Anne didn't dwell on that nonsense.

She listened, sorting flattery from fact. Violet seemed to be playing straight with her for the moment, compliments included. Anne didn't like the little prickling along her spine that came with the next bit. Once she was tired of waiting for Violet to explain herself (approximately a third of a second), Anne snapped, "Strength for what, Vi?" Anne heard the answer over her lament. It took more than a second for her to make anything of what she heard.

"You're getting...what? Your parents find someone who looked stuffier in a portrait for you then?" Anne wasn't in the mood for riddles today, and she skidded to a stop. She narrowed her eyes, taking in the other girl now grinning like a fool for some reason. Violette had a look she'd seen before, even if what she was saying was mental. Slowly, warning dripping from her tone, Anne dared to ask, "Vi, what did you do?"

Anne looked at Violetta and Violetta felt like the other slytherin could see right into her soul. It was the hazards of sharing a room with someone for so long and sharing so many personal moment, she could tell, that "sorry, not sorry" look she had mastered.

She shrugged slightly and sighed. "I fell in love Anne, it was silly but... cest la vie." she supposed she should give more context, Violetta had always had her head in some French romance novel and enjoyed those stories, if Anne was to take her seriously she needed to know this wasnt a flight of fancy.

"You remember when we started fifth year I told you that over the summer I had a fun encounter at a flower show with a gentleman after a plant attacked him, oui? And the was a couple of little rumours about him visiting my family home announced?" she bobbed her head in her usual chatty way. "And then there was those rumours that a gentleman had called on me in Marseille over Christmas. .. alone?" she shot Anne a devilish expression. She had strongly denied any wrong doing, insisting that the man was simply a friend that lacked the social awareness to arrange a platonic visit appropriately.

"And those are just the meetings that managed to find their way to the society gossips. Mon ami, Victor makes me feel like nothing else. Every time, I tell myself it is the last, and every time I believe myself less. So I can marry François in January, knowing that I cannot give up my love and risk, being discovered and destroying everything with certainty. Or marry Victor first, and hope that I can weather the storm on my own terms." Vee's voice was beginning to waver back towards her nerves. She was scared, Anne wasnt part of her circles but Violetta suspected that even in her distain she knew how they worked, and how scandalous her actions were.
